Sony just diagnosed a failed modem>>>now want me to package up and mail to beantown for repair ($150) and wait 3 weeks for repair. I contacted TIVO regarding lifetime subscription which I will lose unless I send back to Sony.
I am VERY frustrated with Sony as their quality sucks...in past 2 years I have had to trash 2 Directv receivers and now this!!

Any suggestions.

Well, you can always set up PPP-over-serial, use TurboNet, etc and simply avoid the use of the modem... TurboNet has support in 3.0...

There are several places that can repair you unit (thereby keeping your sub).

Try picking up a set of Phonex PX-441 or RCA RC-930 'wireless' phone outlets. It provides the best protection from modem damage.

You can also use an external modem (properly configured).
