I don't know if this is already known, but I haven't seen it written anywhere before (and certainly not in the UK version of the manuals).

I have an obscure make of TV (Wharfedale) which is not listed in the config list for the remote. After talking to the TiVo helpdesk, they said to use the remote autoconfigure:

Press TIVO+Mute simultaneously, and hold for 3 sec until red light on remote comes on steady.
Then, the remote is in a 10-min cycle, going through all IR command sets for TVs.... press the vol up/down buttons every second until you get a set that works, then hit Enter to keep it and end the cycle.

Worked for me - my tivo remote can now control the TV volume. The Tivo helpdesk in the UK seems very efficient and knowlegable in my (short) experience, so far.

This is in the UK manual. I haven't had to use it but I knew about it.
