I was trying to replace my factory single Quantum Fireball 40 GB drive (device is hdc) by an 80 GB Western Digital Drive (device hdb) following option # 3 of the hack procedure. I performed a backup of hdc to the dos mounted filesystem /mnt/dos/tivo.bak. When I tried restoring the tivo.bak to hdb, I got an error restore abnormally terminated. It only restored about 736 of 1355 MB. Now, the tivo box is not recognizing either of the drives. The Tivo unit is a Hughes with just one standalone drive.

Is there a image file for blesssing a new drive. I have already tried 9thtee.com for any possible answers with no luck. At this point I am almost ready to call it quits !!.

Any help would be appreciated please.

Thanks

I'm confused...you were REPLACING your 40GB drive, right?

So you should not have written to it at all....You should have backed it up, then disconnected from your PC, then connected the 80GB drive.

You should be able to just reconnect your 40GB drive back to the TiVo and it should work (assuming you didn't try to restore back to the ORIGINAL drive).

If you didn't try to do any kind of restore to your original drive, then it should work fine.....just make sure you set the Master/Slave/Cable Select jumper back to either Master, or Cable Select. If it is set to Slave, it won't boot.

If you get the original working again, then try the backup again...make sure you have enough space in your "C" drive to hold the image.

That's correct. I had intended to replace the 40 GB with the 80 GB. I used the dd command to copy all the contents to the 80 GB. I had also initiated a mfstools backup before I did that. When I stuck the 80 GB in the tivo, it would just sit there with a message "Almost there...". Then I stuck the 40 GB back in. It would only get as far as "Powering up...". I was planning on using the 40GB for my PC. Since I assumed that I had done an mfstools backup, and I had dd'ed all the contents to the 80 GB, I reused the 40 GB in my pc. (I guess I have learnt that PC's have a mind of their own!)

Anyhoo.. Now I am stuck with this 80 g and no Tivo, no TV (!@#$).

Thanks

I see you have the Hughes....I only have Sony and Philips, so I wouldn't be able to help. Maybe someone else here would be able to help you out.
