EMERGENCY help! DSR6000 w/lifetime issues after attempting backup
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK, pulled drives out of dsr6000, put drives into computer got as far as
mfstool backup -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
command line and it says Success! then input output error.
Basically backup never started so no backup image. After trying to get this to work for awhile, gave up and took original drives out and put back into unit. Now only getting Welcome. Powering Up... screen. Is there any way out of this? My buddy has a lifetime sub on this unit and I'm supposed to return it to him tomorrow. I have a prior DSR6000 image of mine but I didn't have lifetime on my unit. Did his image have unique serial number, subscription information on it or can I just use my image and then when his unit calls in it'll update his unit appropriately?
I'm so screwed.

You can use your backup. The serial number is stored on the motherboard, and the subscription info will get updated on the first phone call.
No worries!

Yeah, I found the answer to that question after searching a bit. The problem I have now is I'm able to produce a valid image, i.e. I successfully created the backup file and tested it. But when I try to run
mad/setup.sh
I'm getting errors. I'm at work now so I can't remember exactly what the errors were. I'm going to try downloading the nuboot.iso again and try everything from the restore forward again, since I have a good image based upon my test.

mfstools backup -6so /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
This line was your problem initially. You forgot to specify a location to store the backup. It should read
mfstool backup -6so /mnt/c/backup.tivo /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
or something similar.
Try running mfsadd -x rather than TiVoMad.

This is the command I actually used, I was typing that original post from memory so didn't get everything in there.
mfstool backup -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdb

mfsadd -x
Just type that? What iso image is that off of? Any of the various CDs?

mad/setup.sh doesn't work with a DTiVo - that is the SA command.
maddtb4/setupcd.sh is the DTiVo command.

I'll try that, thanks
