Help, can't display Live TV (everything else ok though)

Hi guys, looking for a quick response on this one before I call CS. I've just come in and the TiVo is sat with it's blue "No-live-tv-connection" screen, even tho the Sky Digital box is on and working fine. I've switched to Aux, and the Sky signal is clearly visible, also played recorded stuff from Now Playing and everything checks out but I can't view Live TV???!
I've restarted the recorder a couple of times to try and sort it but to no avail. The strange thing is everything else seems to work ok so I presume its a hardware problem?

Have you tried changing channels? Sometimes if I accidentally try to go to a 1 or 2 digit channel which doesn't exist my Tivo does this. Try entering 101 on the handset.

Turn the sky STB off then on again, and put tivo into standby, and bring it back out of standby.
Tivo will not detect the STB if it displays the blue screen, if you just turn the STB on and off.

Aux works OK tho Woody?

thanks for the quick replies. Have tried all the usual stuff like turning the Sky box on/off, changing channels etc. It's just like it's completely ignoring the Sky signal.
I'm going to swap the SCART leads next, see if that's the problem. Trouble is, the kit is all in a hard-to-access fitted shelving unit. Bloody typical. It'll take me all night just to get to the back of the Tivo.
Grr.

Sorry, forgot that bit.
Could try the hardware test.
1.powerdown tivo
2.hold pause on the remote & power up tivo while still holding pause
3.if two amber lights o the front show, then the hardware is OK.

Seems to be solved. I went through and replaced all the SCART leads. No luck. I then went back to all the original SCARTs (and rung CS, expecting the worst). Despite doing several reboots, CS suggested I reboot one last time, just to be sure, whilst I was on the phone to them.
Lo and behold, it worked. Typical. Now they think I'm another technophobic idiot who can't find his proverbial with two hands and a map :)
Anyway, it's back working. For now. Thanks for the help all.

I seem to be getting the "TiVo can't display live TV - no signal" blue screen more frequently at the moment and am getting a bit fed up of resetting the box. Are there any common causes/solutions other than those that the blue screen tells me to check?

The above may help with bduguid's problem

Does the "Pause" power up hardware test just check the non hard drive components. So if I pass but TiVo is still not working then it will definately be the Hard Drive? My Tivo is stuck at the Power up cycle and i want to confirm it is the HD faulty before I upgrade to the 120Gb drive. Could it be the Mpeg encoder etc.

I think that is the case. RobertS seems to spend a lot of time on the american forums where this tip was picked up from, he should be able to confirm as he is usually lurking!

I had the blue screen (with can't display live tv) message this morning - while TiVo thought it was recording.
I checked an earlier recording and that was fine.
The Digibox was outputing a signal on RF - but the recording on TiVo was still empty after an hour or so of recording.
I pressed channel up on TiVo and was prompted that it would end the current recording. As soon as I said OK - the picture returned on TiVo and this was followed by the image of the digibox having a channel change.
So the fix occured before the Digibox was issued with a channel change!
So this confirms that the problem can arise when there is no problem with the connections or the Digibox!
There must be an issue with TiVo!

I have the same problem (very) occasionally, I'm on ntl:home, so it's never a source issue. As you found, a channel change clears it.
Once, though, it didn't. TiVo displayed a black screen on all channels - even UHF - although all other functions were normal. Made the Guide very easy to read! Had to reboot to clear that one, but it's been fine since.
