Alas, not the DVD...but almost as good!
Rounder records has announced they plan to release the episode soundtrack CD of "Once More With Feeling" on 9/17.
No details, but the title is on this page.
Now doesn't THAT just make your day?

I've been listening to my burned copy since November! Who needs to wait for the studio?
(okay, okay, I'll still buy the official cd when it comes out, but only cause it's really worth it)

Eh, it's cool but not going to replace my MP3s.
I'll just wait and buy the entire season when it comes out. Now that's a DVD that will be worth it for the one episode alone.

I'm with Bryan on sticking with the mp3s, this soundtrack seems a little skimpy to jusify a CD. It would be cool not to have the sound effects in Giles and Spikes songs though (at least on the rips I have).

Skimpy? OMWF is a great soundtrack, more than justifying a CD.
And I assume the reason it has taken so long is not just the need to remix it to remove background noises and sound effects, but also to complete songs which where cut off due to shifts in scenes.
For instance: when "I'm under your spell" is cut off at the end to switch to the scene in the Magic Box, or when the final "Where do we go from here?" is cut off when Spike and Buffy walk out of The Bronze.
I want complete songs, dangit! No cut off endings or distracting sound effects/background noises.
The CD should also include the background music we don't have time to focus on due to Buffy characters engaging in dialogue, such as the parking ticket song or the music the men in white with push brooms are dancing to in the background when Giles, Xander, and Anya are discussing Buffy.
Frankly, if they do it right, this CD will blow the mp3s away.

Cool, maybe they'll add a few extras like other songs that have been played at the Bronze....

Just like that, the CD has been removed from the page linked above.
And I was starting to look forward to it.

Well, I'm pretty happy with my .mp3's, too, but I think it's important to buy the CD, so that folks will realize that there's a market for stuff like this. This might be a good test for what would happen if they released the standalone OMWF DVD that has been rumoured.

I apologize for bad-mouthing the CD and causing the marketing people to remove it from the site. :D

I don't want a standalone DVD.
Just give me the entire season.

Well, there will be one...but not for another three years. I for one don't want to wait--and I don't want to pay $100+ on ebay. So I am hoping for a SA DVD soon!

Fair enough. I'll just have to be happy with my VCD for now. :D

We have a 17 month old son. My wife loves Howie with all her heart, but yesterday she was a little upset with him (herself, really ;)).
Since last September, we'd been saving OMWF on the Tivo, and watched it once in a while. At this rate, it won't be until early next year that Season 6 is available on DVD in England.
Unfortunately, while she was on the phone, Howie had grabbed the remote and started pressing buttons. In her words, "I knew he deleted something, but didn't figure out what until later!"
Strangely enough, I had just gone to back it up to tape a few days ago, but our VCR died. Not sure when we'll get it fixed, now.
Anyway, Yeah CD! Yeah Buffy!

Oooooo!!!!
I know your pain. A few months ago DirecTV had a free Veggie Tales weekend. We recorded it and it was three stories that my son (now 7 months) [b]loved[/d] to watch. He would sing along (as best he could) and he just loved that show.
About a month ago my wife was cleaning the house and he was watching the show. He got the remote and *somehow* deleted the show. We were so surprised and panicked.
The show is only available on VHS (the complete one, anyway) and I've got a strict policy against buying VHS material. Hurry up DVD!!!

As crappy as I think season 6 was, I know nearly every song from OMWF by heart and I'll probably buy the season 6 DVDs just for that episode if they don't release it SA before then. How pathetic is that?
But I'd be surprised if season 6 came out in three years, considering season three isn't due until "winter 2003" according to a flyer in the season 2 DVDs.

that's why I snagged the promo cd on ebay the night the musical aired - there were tons of them floating around at the time, my cd is studio quality.
Me loves my Buffy:)

Hate to nitpick, but it didn't air until November. ;)

Well, I understand them to be on a every January-June/July release schedule:
Season 1: January 2002
Season 2: June 2002
Season 3: January 2003
Season 4: June 2003
Season 5: January 2004
Season 6: June 2004.
So really, I guess I misspoke-I expect that it will be out in two years.
I would still buy a standalone copy right now if they would release one!

And you can even buy it now.
I think I'll wait till it's actually released though.

There is more info at the site now. On what's on it: quote:
The CD release features ten tracks — the entire original soundtrack to the show, as well as an unreleased demo version of "Going Through the Motions," sung by Whedon and his wife Kai Cole, and score segments from three other "Buffy" episodes, "Restless," "Hush" and "The Gift." The album's artwork was designed by comic book artist Adam Hughes, known for his work on X-Men, Justice League, Wonder Woman and other collectible titles.
It also looks like they changed the release date from 9/17 to 9/24 - which is the day of the season 7 premiere.

Slayage has a link to the full press release here.
Since my birthday is the 25th, I really couldn't be more excited. It's like my own personal birthday present from Joss!

Here's an article on it that came out today.
(Lori, this is a Foxnews link so your browser might not allow you to click it. :D)

For those of you that are Buffy fans and DON'T already have the MP3's of this episode, you can get them here:
http://www.buffyworld.com/buffy/music/
You can also get the lyrics as well. These have been taken from the original air date (near as I can tell) and have the cute background effects as well.
My complaint is that Spike's "I guess that means you're not staying then" was cut from the end of his "Let Me Rest In Peace" song as Buffy runs away...
The fact that I know all the words (with just a little help with Sweet's words from the site during the montage where the entire cast is singing on "Walk Through The Fire") makes me a very disturbed individual.
And loving it!!

Having the audio versions WITHOUT sound effects and production edits will be worth it. Besides, I guarantee you that no matter how good you think it sounds, what you're listening to is audio that's undergone HUGE amounts of compression (not just to the .mp3 format, but the original broadcast signal was compressed and the audio was processed immensely). The CD will be sonically superior in every possible way.

The cd is starting to appear on all the typical sites as a preorder, but I also found a mention of a script book just for the musical on b&n. This is the only info I could find on it (from a uk site): http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/buffy/news/02081205.shtml Cool :)

I downloaded mine from the same site. I play it in the car and my son loves it. He keeps singing about walking through the fire, walking through the fire (over and over ad nauseum). I had to buy a copy of the episode off of ebay (settled for a VCD copy instead of a DVD.....cheaper) and my son has watched it a few times. He seems to think it's neat that they're singing the songs that he hears in the car (if you didn't know...he's 5).
OT....Of course, this is the same son who loves Lord of the Rings! I didn't think he was ready for it but my husband watched it with him. He was afraid of Galadriel the first time, but after that, he was fine with it. Now he keeps wanting to play Legolas and Aragorn while running around the house...

Just found this thread. :)
A bit delayed from Lori's original post, but yes, it made my day.

(bump)
so who got their's?
Posted by: Pan Chun
I got mine last week. It's pretty cool...but I'm a little disappointed that a FEW pieces of dialogue didn't survive. Sweet's "Showtime!" and Dawn's "The hardest thing in life is to live in it" would have been perfectly appropriate. Also liked the slightly longer version of Marti Noxon's "The Parking Ticket"...on the show you don't hear her point out to the cop that "I'm not wearing underwear"! ;)
Sound quality is outstanding, though. Maybe I'll get creative and combine those snippets into some uncompressed rips and make yet another version of the CD. :)
Joss's liner notes were both informative and humorous. Anyone notice how he mentioned that "since we're not talking 'about me' I'm bored"? I'm sure he was just kidding, but it reminded of Evil Willow's "Bored now" moment.
OH--I also REALLY like the Christophe Beck music from "Restless" and "Hush". I'm usually not a huge fan of incidental music, but this was really interesting stuff.

Agreed. The stuff from Hush was especially good. I was driving home at 2 in the morning through some wooded areas when I heard this. Not a good time or place to listen to that track :)

Now, me I liked Christophe Beck's score from the Gift....
I was hoping for a couple of cuts from some Bronze bands but it's all good...

JYoung: This might be up your alley
Look for UPC 0 16851 83002 8, or CD code TVT 8300-2. TVT Soundtrax has an album called "Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Album." It's a couple of years old at this point - released in 1999 - but it features 16 tracks of "bronze" type music, as well as the Buffy-Angel Love Theme ("Close Your Eyes") from Christophe Beck and the Nerf Herder theme music.
HTH!

Mine arrived yesterday. Of course, I didn't bring in the mail yesterday, so I didn't find it until this morning.
And I read this thread last night, thinking 'Man, when is mine going to show up?!'. ;)
It was sitting about ten feet from me. I just had to get up and look. :D
Cheers,
Pony

Picked it up last night (yeah, I'm one of those losers that still buys CDs at a store ;)). Pretty good. Sound quality is much better than the show was. Lost more of the music comes through--on the show and the MP3s, it often seemed like it was just a keyboard and a singer. I am also really glad that they gave us the full versions of all the songs; especially "Where do we go from here". I do have to agree with Pan on the dialogue, though--for the most part, I'm glad it wasn't included, but "Showtime" and the explanation of "They Got the Mustard Out" I would have liked.

Thanks but I picked that up in 99. I just thought that they might add some newer Bronze cuts or Giles song from "Restless"....
I also liked the last line of the Parking Ticket... ;)
