E! Entertainment makes me sick...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just finished wasting 30 minutes of my life watching The Anna Nicole Show. It's my own fault. I already know how much BS I have to deal with when watching this channel.

The show was 16 minutes of content and 14 minutes of commercials, not to mention the promos they display at the bottom of screen at 3 times the volume of the program being shown. And on top of all that, the show was terrible.

Why must every channel insist on 24/7 promos and near 50% commerical time during programs, all playing at a WAY higher volume? I don't know how many times the crap has been scared out of me when the commerical volume hits an all-time high.

I can feel my brain anyerisum about to pop...

Sit back, relax, and realize something:

You are an idiot. ;P

Be honest...how could ANYONE with an IQ above 78 even think that a show staring Anna Nicole be even remotely entertaining?

Thanks Sinnerman. Your reply to my main question of E! having too many commericals with high volume proves that you too are an idiot.

Sometimes we ALL need some "idiot" TV;). I'd forgotten ANS was on tonight
so I'll have to catch the repeats just to experience it. I agree that it seems
like E! has just quit trying re original programming(or lack thereof).

Hehe. I'm as much a "victim" as anyone else. I too admit to "idiot" TV. I even have a 1 episode wishlist to...*gasp* "World's Wildest Police Videos".

Sometimes I am not proud of myself. ;P

Of course, discussion of TV PROGRAMS belongs in the TV TALK forum...(where this show is already being discussed)...

Yes, and since Pan, is right again.... we shall move...

I'd say this was your first mistake. If you stick your hand in a fire, don't complain when it gets charred. ;)

I think the original point was the number of commercials in the program. We're quickly approaching the 50% mark on content to commercials.

What I find interesting is that the people in the advertising business are stuck on the 'more is more' idea (more commercials = more money coming in). What I think they have missed (and will continue to miss) is the 'less is more' mentality. I *used* to not care about watching commercials because they took up little time in my life compared to the content I was getting. As it is, though, they keep shoving ads in TV more and more so now I actively look to avoid ads. I think that I wouldn't bother skipping past ads if it were something like 10 minutes (15%) of the show interspersed across the hour.

Unfortunatly, I don't think the ad execs will ever even consider this. In their minds they keep throwing ads at us and all we seem to do is to avoid them. So, in order to rectify the situation, they need to throw more at us to get the same number of hits that they used to get.

I don't understand why commercials bother you with a Tivo. Personally I can't remember the last time I watched a commercial :)

I think the main gripe is the fact that there is 40% of the screen taken up by ADs during the actual show now. With the pop-up news flash at the bottom. With the E! logo. Just annoying...

In my opinion, E! is by far the worst offender when it comes to excessive commercial time. No other channel that I watch comes close. Unfortunately, they're all headed that way.

And that popup is *really* loud. Startling. (At least I think it's the popus on E! that are loud like that. )

I think it's both a time and space issue.

Time in the sense of the percentage of the allocated time that is taken up with commercials.

Space in a sense of ads popping up on the screen.

I was really speaking about the time issue before but even when they start popping them up on the screen it (in my opinion) still eats into the time that is reserved (well, almost) for ads.

I keep reading that channels that we all consider 'free' right now will have to go to a pay service if things like TiVo catch on. That, in my opinion, probably won't be so bad. It would mean that I'd be able to select (a la carte) which channels I want to watch and, for many of us, our cable/satellite monthly fees could go down. You could get the dozen or so channels that you actually watch for $1 each or so instead of having to pay $50-$100 for a bunch of channels you don't watch to get the channels that you do watch.

Of course, the lesser watched channels would fade away but I don't think that's a bad thing either. Using the logic of the ad execs, the lesser watched channels would probably think, "Hey, hardly anyone is watching us. We'd better raise our rates to compensate." (without thinking, of course, that raising their rates would result in even fewer viewers/subscribers). This is what I think the ad execs are doing, "Hey, 22% of a program is ads and no one is watching. We'd better bump that up to 30% or 40% so make up for it."

A local radio station in Washington recently changed formats (to a sort of AAA format) and has significantly reduced commercials, making up the difference by charging companies more for the ads. It is such a great idea! While I admit I still sometimes channel surf, I am much less likely to do so when the commercial break is only about 1-1.5 minutes long instead of five! I wish some TV networks would try this!

Posted by: vman

also, on Anna Nicole, I was channel surfing last night through the guide for a few minutes while waiting for my wife and saw the show, and ALMOST clicked on it! As much as I admit to watching some really stupid TV shows, some part of my brain stopped me from hitting the "select" button the remote when it stopped on Anna Nicole ni the guide. Saved at least a few brain cells! Instead, I remembered "I have a Tivo" and went to Now Playing", and turned on the classic "Bill Cosby Himself" concert. Thank you Tivo!

MTV!! Talk about long commercial breaks..

Wait just a minute... We didn't hear any complaints when you were watching Wild On! :)

Posted by: Chuck_IV

Hey, I tried to play the "smart guy" by refusing to watch the first episode of the Osbournes, which my wife had to watch. Guess where that went... I caught 5 minutes of it on a repeat and laughed my *** off and faithfully(something I have never ever done with a TV series) watched every episode till the end of it's run.

So calling someone an idiot for watching something you "think" you won't like sometimes makes you look even more stupid.

Obviously people here seem to lack a sense of humor or have poor eyesight since I was blatantly joking.

*sigh*.

Sadly things like TIVO might be partially to blame for the extra ads. People are watching less ad's, so they cost less, so they need to sell more

Just a thought.

I was just wondering if Anna Nicole is capable of speaking in clear, coherent, complete sentences. Apparently not.....

Add this to the outrages:

At one point the distracting banner at the bottom of the screen was trumpeting the fact that the show would be repeated at 10:30. Think about that - they interrupted a show to run a promo ... for the same show! HELLO!! WE'RE WATCHING IT! Do they honestly think people wanted to watch it twice? Sheesh.
