Help!!!

I created an rc.sysinit.author file on my tivo partitions. However, I accidently spelled something wrong (I put a 6 at the end of the tivoftpd line instead of a &) and now I can't telnet in. How can I fix this without removing the hard drive again?

It's impossible to say without knowing what you've done. One possibility would be to use bash on the serial port if that's been enabled (and is started before tivoftpd). If you have tivoweb access, you could upload my command module (http://pug.qqx.org/tivo/cmd.itcl) and use that to start telnet (the current version even has starting telnet in the menu of prewritten commands).

If neither of those works, the only other thing I can think of is to find a way to kill tivoftpd remotely, after which the telnet server should start. But, it would probably be easier to just yank the drive again.

I yanked it and fixed the problem. Thanks anyway. :)

Glad you got it fixed.. in the future please consider a more descriptive subject line... "HELP!" all by itself tends to be ignored.
