24 Dvd (Spolier!)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: TivoZorro

The "24" DVD which is due to be released in September will offer an alternate ending to the season finale. Teri Bauer lives in that one.

ACK ACK ACK!

PLEASE use a spoiler warning or the spoiler tags!!! Believe it or not, I STILL haven't seen any episodes yet, though I have all 24 recorded sequentially!

My humblest apologies! Sorry about that.

Well, I hate to spoil M*A*S*H for you, but Henry Blake doesn't make it home alive.

Geez, Pan, at some point, it really is your fault if you haven't watched it yet.

 So says someone in a forum built around a DELAYED BROADCAST technology.

A spoiler tag or notice takes next-to-ZERO effort. Deal with it.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Don't worry, you'll be rooting for certain characters to kick the bucket anyway.....

Rosebud is the sled.

Sorry a six month lag is too much. Either watch the !@#!@ show or deal with the possibility of a spoiler. Geez, some people.... ;-)

I was harsh as a joke but I do think that at some point spoiler tags are a nuisance just to avoid the very minor chance that someone could be that far behind....

Some people won't see it until the DVD comes out. Some people are just now seeing Buffy for the first time thanks to DVD. Since the Twin Peaks season 2 DVD set hasn't been released yet, I *still* wouldn't blurt out who killed Laura Palmer or, for that matter, who shot Dale Cooper at the end of season 1...(that was what, 12 years ago?).

In general terms, discuss away...but vital plot points and revelations in a series that revolves around them? Why not err on the side of caution?

Exactly -- so stop reading "24" threads in "TV Show Talk" and you'll be safe.

Posted by: Pan Chun

Actually, the thread is about the 24 DVD, which was why I stopped in in the first place. IT hasn't been released yet, either....

I don't often agree with Pan ;) but I do here. Spoiler tags or warnings really should be used around here. We should be more appreciative of this than anyone. It's just a nice courtesy.

If we don't use tags the next step will be to split the TV Talk forum into spoiler and non-spoiler sections. You really want something like that? ;)

I don't get why people on a board about a device that enables you to watch shows anytime you want are so touchy about beng called on using spoiler tags. I saw a link in the Happy Hour that went to a story that told of a major plot twist of a show (that I don't watch, BTW). The link was cited for a TiVo mention in the article but I thought to myself that someone who liked the show might get burned by the spoiler so I pointed out, very nicely I might add, that there were spoilers in the article. I got reamed over that one by several people who I had respected in the forum until that point.

I am constantly amazed by what people choose to be offended by around here.

Doesn't the title of this thread say (Spoiler!), or am I missing something? (like, did a mod add that after the thread began...)

Posted by: LoadStar

grecorj: The spoiler tag was added after the thread was posted. Who added it, I'm not sure.

harvscar: I think it's the fact that spoiler tags can be taken a little too far. In this case, the season has been done and over for 3 months now, so is a spoiler tag necessary for the very few people - possibly as few as 1 or 2 - who haven't watched the series?

And if I were to be one of those type of people that waited to watch the series and wanted to stay spoiler free - if I saw the topic of the thread talked about the series, myself I'd stay well out of it. I'd be a little annoyed if, say, a spoiler for 24 cropped up in the middle of a discussion on the iPreview function of TiVo or whatever - but I probably would expect to see a spoiler on 24 in a thread about the 24 DVD.

It's the kind of thing - how long do you keep doing spoiler tags? Like, for example, do you really have to do a spoiler tag for a 1st season episode of a show when they're in the 7th season? Do you do a spoiler tag for a movie that came out 10 years ago? Etc... Yes, TiVo allows you to watch TV shows and movies anytime - but there comes a point that something really isn't a "spoiler" anymore.

Posted by: grecorj

I agree 100%. At some point you have to take some personal responsibility. I mean, it's not as if this thread was titled "Birthday Cake Ideas!" and someone posted: "How about that ending of Signs? I couldn't believe that..."

Pan: Thanks a lot, btw -- just bought Twin Peaks Season 1 DVD, didn't know that Cooper gets shot at the end of the season!!! (just kidding, but really, nice way to make your point about spoilers by throwing one in there yourself).

I added the Spoiler after I started the thread and Pan had posted.

Actually, a mod must have. You can't change the title once you've posted.

Actually, that WAS the point...him getting shot was not much of a spoiler...but revealing WHO actually SHOT HIM would have been.
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
It was Josie Packard, btw.

Somehow, the poster did it...I "saw" it happen concurrent with the notice that it would. :)

How is this possible? I've tried it and it just doesn't work.

Maybe TiVoZorro has godlike powers, and he doesn't even know it...

Posted by: Pan Chun

Well, the thread was only 2 posts old at the time (maybe 3)...but it DID work. <shrug> Seems unlikely to me that a mod would jump on something like that within 4 minutes of it having been created, so I take TiVoZorro at his word that it was he who changed the subject.

I bear witness because I was there! :) I am unable to supply an adequate explanation for the mechanics of it, however.

Of course, since the thread was less than 5 mins old, perhaps the same function that allows us to EDIT a post in that time without getting a "Last edited by..." flag also allows the modification of thread titles if done as quickly. You got me, boss!

A quick trip to the testing area shows that you can indeed change the thread title within a few minutes of posting.

So I retract my questioning of the validity of TiVoZorro and have learned something new!

I'm with Pan and the others who think there should be spoilers regardless of how old a show is. (No surprise to anyone who saw my angry post in the "Shark-jumping" thread.)

Luckily, I didn't see this thread until it had already been edited to add the spoiler warning to the subject. Because of that, I waited until just now to read this thread. (I started watching 24 late last Friday, and just finished tonight. I had to take Sunday off to go hang with Otto. :)) But if I had seen the original topic as "24 DVD" I would have looked at it, just to see when the release date was, or if it was some sort of hot deal, etc. Thankfully, I didn't. I would have been REALLY pissed off to read that spoiler. The last few minutes of the show, I was hoping it ended the way it did, but I really wasn't sure. I think it would have been inconsistent for them to let TB live and yet have no compunction about shooting other people on the way out.

Ok, back to the topic of "24" . . . =)

From TV Guide Online today:
24 HOURS OF 24: Miss any episodes of Fox's critical hit 24 this year? The show's low ratings suggest you probably did, so set your VCRs for this golden opportunity: Starting at midnight on Sept. 1, FX will rerun the drama's entire first season — that's a solid 24 hours of 24. The marathon ends at midnight on Sept. 2, which is Labor Day. (And if you miss that, you can always buy the first season on DVD, to be released Sept. 17.)

ok spoiler talk again :

IF Terry lives, wouldnt that change the whole impact of the ending alot and surely effect Jack's character and motivation in whatever teh sequel ends up being. I mean, we learn Nina is bad, but shooting Terry made her down right nasty ya'know... The ending surprised me and I thought was pretty tragically awesome....
