Thanks for all the help! I am getting real close - I followed the steps on this board for getting pppOS continually on.

Where I am at:

When my tivo boots up I get a incoming connection (<unauthenticated user>) as expected. I cab get the ip address of it and telnet to it and get the bash prompt. Things look good so far (but I would have expected a login prompt not a bash prompt - any ideas here - people say telnet to the box and tail the log - I cannot use tail with bash?).

So this is where it gets nasty - my cable modem is connected to a wireless router that is DHCP for my notebook that the tivo is connected to.

I tried opening the requested ports, but the daily call still fails as Service Unavailable.

So my questions: I get a IP of 169.254.158.84 for the tivo - is this right - or should it somehow be contacting my router for an IP. The router subnet is 255.255.255.252 (not 0) - does this change the stuff on the tivo that refers to 255.255.255.0???

So I am stuck (I am sure I screwed something up) - please help..

TIA

JD
