Help -- Swap out TiVo B Drive?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My Philips DSR6000 TiVo started rebooting a couple of weeks ago. I checked the logs and found nothing conclusive. What should I check for? Which log? Anyway, I did find some messages about unrecoverable sector on hdb. However, the log continues so that is not when the reboot happens. hdb is my B drive, which is a fairly new WD 80 GB drive. I upgraded to 96 hours several months ago with no issues.

My question is, can I just put in the old B drive (Quantum 15 GB drive) in place of the new WD drive? What steps should I do to accomplish this? At this point, I don't care about downgrading to 35 hours -- I just want a functioning TiVo!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks,
TivoManiac

You can't just put the old B drive back in. TiVo drives form 'married' pairs and can't be mixed up. (If you think about it, recordings are scattered across both drives, so things would get very confused if you swapped either drive.)

You could dd the failing B drive onto a new drive of the same size. Your only alternative is to restore an MFS Tools backup to your original disk set. Either restore from your existing backup, or make a backup from both your current drives and restore that to the original drive set.
