Have any ideas to backup failed

I am getting really frustrated; I spent about 10 hours trying to get through the back up part of my single drive tivo. I am using a Tigers tools 2 and have my drives on the exact IDE spots recommended. I have installed a 6 gig drive that I reformatted fat 32 with one primary dos partition. Both the bios and Linux see the correct drive sizes now that I used gunlock on my original drive. First I use these commands, they work fine

mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
Then I use

mfsbackup -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc (Boot Cd and Floppy command)

After this it get source drive 30 hours and backup will be 30 hours uncompressed size 3467mb

It starts to copy and I wait about 45 minutes at that point it is at about 80% then BACKUP FAILED /mnt/dos/tivo.bak

Please give me some ideas, thanks

Is it possible that your destination drive is out of space? 3GB is a pretty big backup.

Yes, I thought that but I do have 6 gigs available and when I look at the file that it never completed it still has about 2 gigs left of HD. Also it says in the how to file that a couple gigs is all that is needed for this process so I kind of ruled this out. Thanks

Have you tried putting a bigger (~10Gb) partition on your new drive and seeing if the backup completes on that?

I agree with enigma, though. 3Gb seems way too high for a normal MFS Tools backup. (Mine came out at 340Mb compressed and US TiVoes seems to come in lower than that).

Well, I went and Got TivoMad v3.2 for floopy and tried that, It finnaly after about 1.5 hours backed up my Tivo A drive, I tried the back up in my new large drive and it worked. So I went ahead and blessed the new drive and now have a 136 hour tivo.

Question is the Tivo.bak file is 2,642,797KB in size. Are they always this biG??? Can I split this file with Zip safely and store it on CDRs.

Thanks

PS. Is there a way to get some generic new type of tivo.bak file that is smaller to keep for emergancy.

You should be able to download an image a tenth that size. Posting images is banned on this Forum, but if you ask discreetly :)

Make sure the image you download matches the make of your TiVo and is not an earlier version than your TiVo shipped with.

I am having a simulat problem on my Sony T-60, but I do not get as far as the copy starting. I get

Source drive size 39 hours
Backup image will be 39 hours
Uncompresses backup size 1364 megabytes

nothing beyond this output

I'm using mfstools version 1.1 and ideas of what may be wrong?

Thanks

UPDATE: I am not certain the OS sees the TiVo disk. The dirve is seen by the PC hardware, but I do not see it after booting into Linux. I'll keep plugging away unless omeone has a idea.

Thanks again still
