Preferred USB-Ethernet dongles?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've seen some references to a "Tigerdirect 3com" dongle, but no specifics.

Should the average dongle work with the Series2 Tivo w/ 3.0, or is there a specific list of verifed ones?

Thanks all.

Having gone through this recently, including buying (and returning) several USB adapters, some that worked, some that didn't, I recommend going to http://www.9thtee.com/ and purchasing the 3com USB ethernet adapter from them.

It's known to work, recognized by the Series2 unit (as long as v3.x is installed), and at $10 it's far the cheapest, it's the easiest solution known that I've come across.

For anyone who cares, I purchased the standard Belkin USB-Ethernet dongle (don't have a the model number here), and it worked great after a reboot of the TiVo.

judging by thryndel's post I'd say about any USB Ethernet device stands a good chance of working. I bought the 3com 3c460b because it was on 9thtee, it is no longer there that I can find though, so. If you're still looking try outpost.com and search for the model mentioned above, thats where I got mine and it works great. Note however you wont easily get telnet or FTP working on a series2 unit due to a well thought security design (sincerist congrats to TiVo on it). So all its worth is updates over broadband (or where ever your network goes).
