When Does Tivo input Upcoming Premiere Shows into the Season Manager?

Just a quick question:
How long does it take Tivoe to enter upcoming new shows into the Season Manager database?
I was trying to input CSI: Miami, Firefly and John Doe and it wasn't there, yet.
Also, make that two quick questions:
Why does Tivo not let you search for an existing TV show when it isn't cancelled, but doesn't have an upcoming show? My example is Family Guy. I guess it's considered a mid-season replacement (as well as Greg the Bunny, which I think is cancelled), but it sure would be nice if we could at least input this info, EVEN if it wasn't an upcoming program in the next two weeks.
Thanks.

Matt,
A show will only appear in TiVo if it is available in the schedule within the next 10 days. This will be the only time that you could set a season pass. Of course, you still have a season pass for a show that gets cancelled or ends its season run... and it should pick up the new season when its available in the schedule.
One way around this - and alot of people use this - is by setting up a Wishlist based on the show's title. Since it is not directly related to the schedule... you can have TiVo catch any show that has a particular word in the title, or actor, director, or keyword... thus eliminating the need to keep checking the schedule every week or so. You can also have TiVo auto-record any show that meets your criteria.
Hope that helps...and hope that was accurate...

cheerdude is right: an auto-record WL is the way to go. I have an auto-record WL for SHOW TYPE/Series and KW CSI Miami. I set recording options to "FRO". As soon as it hits the guide data I should get a blue star in the To Do List. :D

Or better yet, just CSI, so you can catch both shows with the same wishlist...

Just reminded me - I set SP for Monk and got program about monk seals. The other day I saw a rerun of CSI in now playing (CSI is supposed to record FRO) the episode title was "Felonious Monk". :)

Since Family Guy has been cancelled, I think that you'd be better off with a wishlist....

The only risk in doing something like this is if you have a third program you want an SP for and you value it somewhere between the two CSI shows. You would have no way to tell your Wishlist/TiVO that you may value CSI higher than CSI: Miami.

Only if it stays on the same channel. When "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" moved to UPN last year, the season pass for it had to be deleted and recreated.
The problem I have with Wishlists is that once the show comes "on the radar", your bet would be to delete the Wishlist and create an SP for it. There's no easy way to convert a WL to an SP. Plus, you're not guaranteed that the WL will work, since the title may be spelled differently than you think. Because of all this, I just wait until the show appears in the guide and make an SP for it. Just print out one of the many online lists of new shows and tape it to your TV or something.
