SCSI Upgrade procedure?

Is there an established procedure for upgrading a Tivo for people who have SCSI drives? I'm running Windows 2000 (sp3) with a SCSI C: drive, NTFS formatted - Driven by an Adaptec 19160 controller card.

It looks as though I'll need to at least create a FAT partition.

Anyone been down this road before with any success?

Thanks!

I just upgraded my DirecTivo yesterday using a SCSI drive in my computer to hold the backup.

I was scared off by the MFSTools 2.0 problems, so I used the 1.x Hinsdale instructions. Since I have a DirecTivo I used the nuboot6.iso file to make a boot CD. When booting with this CD it automatically loaded drivers for my Adaptec 2940UW card.

I'm not sure if the other Boot CD's/Floppys will automatically load the SCSI drivers. I would suggest just figuring out what Boot CD/Floppy you want to use, and then boot with it and see if your SCSI drive shows up.

The SCSI drives will show up as /dev/sdXY, where X is a, b, c, etc. in order of the SCSI target ID's and Y is the partition number on the drive. Primary partitions are 1, 2, 3. Extended partitions start at 4. If you only have one SCSI disk, then it would be /dev/sda. You could then issue the linux command "cfdisk /dev/sda" to see the partition layout.

If you can't find your SCSI drive(s) after booting, you will need to ask for helping in finding a driver. (My knowledge of Linux runs out here.....)

But assuming you can get boot process to load a driver for your SCSI card, then it is pretty simple to follow hinsdale's instructions with the following modifications.

As you suggested you need to create a FAT32 partition (need at least 1.5GB per hinsdale's instructions.)
Once you boot, use cfdisk as described above to find the SCSI partition, remember what the device is. If your FAT32 partition is the second primary partition on your only SCSI disk, then it would be /dev/sda2.
Wherever the hinsdale instructions tell you to mount /mnt/dos as /dev/hda1, mount /dev/sda2 instead (or whatever for your system).
Follow the rest of the instructions to the letter.
