Should have said tomorrow, August 20. SORRY!!

Also they are showing off the Caller ID Hack on Wednesday: http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/...3396128,00.html

Hmm, I'll have to check out my "To Do List" when I get home for hits on my TiVo Wishlist. Nothing there as of last night...

Posted by: grecorj

"TiVo" is not part of the episode description for tonight or tomorrow. "The Screen Savers" is on multiple times during the day, but I believe the new show is on at 730... As they say, check your local listings for details...

Ugh, did anyone watch the segment last night? Painful is all I can say...Patrick couldn't even find the 'pause' button and he kept getting distracted by something off camera. Annoying! Hopefully tonights segment will be better (caller id on TiVo). Where's Leo? At least he knows what TiVo is...

Something was definitely wrong with Patrick; he seemed to be out of breath, as though he had just run from the bathroom to the studio right before the camera came back on after the commercials. He seemed to be winded and therefore his sentences were choppy and did not flow right; and as you said something off screen seemed to be distracting him. Very annoying. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Just watched the re-airing of the Wednesday evening show--
Patrick showed the code for displaying a clock in the bottom
right corner of the screen. He said they messed up the CallerID
hack.

Perhaps they would be wise to invite one of the experts on this
forum to show some TIVO magic since they really seem to have
trouble delivering what they 'promise' .

Very disappointing.
Why can't they do it right?
What is so tough about showing some codes for the TiVo?
Why can't they build a lower third that has the code, so that while Pat is fumbling with his cheat-sheet, the viewer has A CLUE about what they're doing?

I *have* a TiVo and I have no idea what the point was of doing those segments! To people who don't have a TiVo I think those segments must have been utterly baffling and useless. And they were the same thing to people who HAVE a TiVo!

TSS=:down: :down: :down:

The TiVo segment was better than the previous night...at least Patrick didn't act like he was paranoid about something like the other night.

Clock hack was cool to show, but didn't that do away for s/a's with 3.0?

Note to Patrick: the show you were watching on PBS is pronounced "Zah-boo-mah-foo". Zobomofoo is like Crocodile Hunter for the pre-school set...the Kratt brothers are pretty funny.

To their credit, they do reference a lot of cool sites on the TechTV website (including, ahem, this one).

Yep. ^^^^
Maybe next week they'll show how to open the hood on a model-T.
:p

Yeah, Pat looked rushed, etc.... why can't he be rushed and paranoid on some OTHER segment? Why do they have to have a LAME segment EVERYTIME they do something with the TiVo?

(Just mad because they could do a better job of it and they are phoning it in, blahhhh!)

a) The box they were using was a Sony standalone system running 3.0. The clock code does work on 3.0, what was eliminated in 3.0 was the elapsed time indicator beside the clock.

b) Yeah, what were they thinking? Caller ID is NOT a secret code or anything like it. You have to hack your box somewhat.

On standalones, this is a hardware hack involving soldering or an extra external modem connected to the serial port. Then you install the caller id software.

On D-Tivo's, the built in modem can do it, but you still have to install the software, and if you've not hacked your D-Tivo to get a bash prompt already, then it's not minor.

Really? I thought it was a Sony DTiVo.

I thought at first that it was a SAT-T60 too. But after hearing Patrick complaining about the quality of the cable service that they had running in the building, and then seeing the cable channel lineup on it... it was a standalone.

I've only had TechTV for a couple weeks. He did seem quite winded for some reason and I was worried that he was going to have a heart attack on live TV. (Well, live timeshifted TiVo.) Hopefully he'll get some rest with the week off while they switch to a new (did they say smaller?) set.

It couldn't have been a D-Tivo. It was running 3.0. You can tell because the onscreen clock code didn't have the ETI beside it. ;)

Are you sure? I don't recall the elapsed time indicator ever being present in Live TV; as I recall it was only active for recordings in Now Playing.

I got the impression that indicator was what he'd intended to demonstrate. He did a fair job covering the mistake.

HTH: Hmmm... you might be right. I don't recall, I don't watch any LiveTV.

In any case, it was definitely on cable, as Opus pointed out.
