No Doubt video changed the color on my TiVo!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I played the "No Doubt" video a few minutes ago. When it finished, the color of the TiVo screens were a different color. Mainly redish. I cleared the screen and brought up the program guide, which is usually blue. It was bright red. The movie playing was normal. I went to the component input for HD and the color was normal. When I went back to the TiVo input and pulled up the program guide, it was blue again. I went back and watched the video again and this time when I pressed the left button to end the video, the color stayed normal. I could not get it to repeat. Has this happend to anyone else?

Not here. And boy, that's a weird problem. What kind of TiVo do you have? And when the color was weird, otherwise, the menus were still working right (ahem) underneath it all?

I've had issues with pausing a video with one particular bright spot on the picture -- it doesn't have to be particularly bright. When I resume playback, the color in that spot is out of whack. After a few minutes, it fixes itself.

Was the video brighter than most things you watch? Did you pause the video?

I was going to say "check your connections," but then I saw that you have a Tosh RPTV...I've heard of other 71/81's doing this (I have a 53H71) --mainly having a blue gun go out for a brief moment.

Check out www.hometheaterspot.com in the Tosh section (do a search and you may find some older posts).

As an ex-TV repairman I'm sorry to tell you that you have shorted gun in your picture tube. Problem will repeat itself (it will be intermittent for a while) and then your picture will turn red permanently. You may get another 3 to 6 month use of your TV, but you better start shopping for a new one (unless your TV is under warranty - if that is a case call for service ASAP).

Lay off the alcohol for a while.

What's this No Doubt video I keep hearing about? Where would it be?

There is a menu item in TiVo Central. It's at the ver bottom but will only be available if your cable/satellite proveider offers the TeleWorld Paid Programming that is carried late at night on Discovery. Some cable operators pre-empt this program with their own paid programs.

Ah, thanks. I just noticed it on my Tivo central today.

I don't have the Discovery channel and have never had to be bothered with yellow stars before, but recently the NO DOUBT thing showed up on my TiVo. How did that happen?

Maybe you got Discovery channel?

I have had the TV 11 months. Original 1 year warranty expires next month. Called a repair shop and they said a service call is $225. Plus at least 300 for a blue gun. GE offers a extended service warranty for $219 per year, which is a lot cheaper than one repair trip even if it isn't the gun. I was intending to get this contract anyway, but was procrastinating. Thanks, Samo, even if you were being a smart a**. I got the extended warranty. A 65inch Tv is too expensive to have to pay for the repair.
