Why is STock Talk Banned

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: midnightmaraude

What is the reason for banning stock talk. Aren't we all interested in how our TiVo is doing? Explain this please! I mean it's not like we're discussing anything counterproductive to tivo and their gains. That's bull. Ban my discussion of stock talk.

Privately owned & operated forum (and not operated by TiVo the company).

Stock talk ban per wishes of the person who brings you this wonderful site. (search the threads).

Sorry.

What a great idea. Except that the search function is almost never available.

I think this might be why so many duplicate topics seem to be showing up as well.

Stock talk is banned because of the mess it made when people started debating stock talk back and forth. It caused a problem, so it was banned.

And David will hopefully have the new server online sometime soon, so search should be available again shortly after that. Probably be a couple weeks though, but that's just a guess on my part, don't hold him to it.

No, it isn't. The policy is mostly because of one guy, who posted as "mojodeal". He's since been banned, but it's still a very good policy.

Advocacy boards are often abused by daytraders. The idea is that if you post to such boards, you're a fan of the company, and quite possibly a stockholder as well. Therefore, some well-placed rumors can result in a predictable downward move in the stock that a shorter can benefit from.

This isn't illegal as such, but it totally destroys the usefullness of the board. And so it's banned.

Discussing tivo's stock price isn't discussing tivo. Heck, discussing the stock market in general is a completely pointless activity, especially in the lower quadrants of NASDAQ-land.

Yahoo has all sorts of company-related finance boards. You can find all the stock-talk you can stand there, as well as a good example of why it's banned *here*. PV

As usual, PV has delivered a completely well-thought-out and prefectly correct statement.

I should hire that guy! Thanks, Paul, for your calm and intelligent posting throughout the net!

Completely pointless...hmm I assume most would have the same opinion about conducting a conversation with you.
