why did i get the 'no doubt' star?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: aphro
I posted in the other thread before it got closed but nobody
replied.
I was wondering if anyone other then me recieved the star
despite not having the discovery channel marked as a channel
I recieve(I've had it this way for over a year).
the last star I got was late last year ..the only difference that I
know of is I turned on backdoors recently to monitor the uptime
of my unit(thats theonly reason i use backdoors).
I don't know if the video is there, i refuse to click on it. maybe
i would if it was Iron Maiden or Rammstein or Megadeth, but
not 'No Doubt', whoever they are.
I'm not trying to start a flamewar but I would like feedback on
my question(and hopefully an explanation of some sort).

The Star itself is downloaded via the phone line, however it shuoldn't show up unless the video it's pointing to is there.
tom_h mentioned in another thread that he got a service download even though he has Discovery deselected. I guess it's possible that they made a change in 3.0 that causes it to ignore your channel lists and try recording anyway just hoping that it's successful.

I don't have an answer for you. If I get a chance, I'll look into it, but no promises...

I got the star and the spot in Showcase, but no video.
PS I get Discovery but Comcast oversells the overnight stuff so no Teleworld for me :(

I also have Comcast, But in NJ.
When I setup a wishlist for "Teleworld" It found 3 10 minute listings within the next week.

I have never received any of the video promotions.
Comcast shows their own paid programming instead of Discovery's.
Turning on backdoors I can see that my Tivo has recorded about 10 different Teleworld programs.
(all infomercials)
Why wouldn't they would be erased after a new one was recorded?
Anyway, the reason I posted in this thread is beacuse the yellow star appeared on my Tivo today.
It promised a new No Doubt video, but there were only tour dates listed...
Should the star still appear if the video isn't available?

Yeah they started breaking their single 30 minute slot into three 10 minute clips because the old 14 hour units didn't have enough reserve space to hold the whole 30 minutes, so they wouldn't be able to get anything at all. This way they can record the first 10 minutes and at least get one clip (presumably the most important one), while bigger units can record all three and get all of the clips.

Anyone notice how that no doubt video resembled a porn video? I really don't think that was appropriate.
Ha Ha Ha
Oh my god ... i am so kidding :) :) :) :D
Sorry I couldn't resist ..... :p

FWIW, I deleted the Teleworkd program, but the star persisted for another day or so.

Just because you don't want normal programming from a channel doesn't mean you don't want service downloads from that channel. Kinda silly to expect TiVo to say "Ah, he doesn't like the Discovery Channel, so he must not like TiVo updates either!"

I got the star but don't get Discovery. When I select the star it says "now that you've seen the video..."

I got the Star and I do not get Discovery. No video, obviously, but I do have a schedule of No Doubt's upcoming tour dates.
I wouldn't mind seeing the video, if I had Discovery, but how the heck can I get rid of the star? Do I have to enable backdoors (which I don't want to do)? How long for it to go away? I hope I don't have to wait until the tour is over.
This doesn't really take up much space (reserved that is), but the software should be smart enough to not give you the Star unless you can get the related content. Of course, the agreement with No Doubt and TiVO could be that they will push whatever content they can to all machines.

Yep, the Showcase still displays the tour dates even if you can't get the video. That's intentional. What wasn't intentional was the wording regarding the video in this case. We'll try to do better next time! :)
Cheers,
Pony
