I bought a Tivo with a dead modem. I'm going to buy a third Tivo, and one of these I was just going to use as a digital VCR(no viewing guide) so I'm thinking about not bothering trying to fix the modem.

The problem is I can't by Guided Setup. Is there a way to skip it and just use it the way I outlined above?

If you restore an image from another TiVo, you'll be precisely where that TiVo was when the backup was taken (doesn't apply to DTiVoes as they check serial numbers).
There's always TurboNet and External Modems, of course.
