I too got the 7200 RPM drive when the box said 5400. I think this would be a great bargain if I was buying for my PC. So is there really that much of a difference in heat or noise when using a 7200 RPM drive? (Single Drive setup). It won't hurt me to keep this one for my PC if I have to go on the hunt for a REAL 5400 RPM drive.
Thanks.

I just replaced a pair of 1.5 year old Maxtor 5400RPM drives with a pair of Seagate Barracuda ATA IV (ST380021A) in my SVR-2000 and the (OEM) Quantum lct20 in my SAT-T60 with a single ST380021A. These 7200RPM Seagates are _WAY_ quieter than those 5400RPM Maxtors. The system temperature on my DTiVo is actually 2°C COOLER with the faster drive (from 50 to 48); I haven't had the SA running long enough to make such a comparison.

Well, honestly these days it doesn't make *that* much of a difference - a recent 7200 RPM drive runs cooler and quieter than ever before. Same with a modern 5400 RPM drive. They run so well it doesn't really matter these days - oftentimes they will be cooler and quieter than the drive they replace.
It's just hard drive technology progressing...
