RB - Need TiVo to give away as doorprize!

The company I work for (we're telecommunication consultants) throws a party once a year for our biggest client. In our planning meeting today I suggested we give away a TiVo as a doorprize. Everybody thought it was a great idea, well not everybody, some people still think it's a VCR.

Anyway, just wondering if anybody knows if TiVo has a policy where I could get one at a reduced rate or something to give away at the party. The event is for about 400 IT people so there is going to be a huge number of tech junkies there and the TiVo would go over big!

We've got no problem buying one at Best Buy or something to give away if necessary but I thought it would be neat to have TiVo donate one with some antenna balls or something.

If anybody knows anything let me know!

I don't think TiVo is gonna give away free units for your company's doorprize...

Well that's why I asked. Like I said, we'll go buy one, the party's budget is around 10K so a $400 unit is not a big deal. I just thought for marketing sake it would be neat to have a unit given by TiVo themselves.

For a non-charity event?? Don't count on it.

He didn't ask for free, he asked if they had a promotional rate. It's worth asking (though I'm not sure here is the correct place), advertising has a certain value and companies routinely give discounts on products to be used as prices in competitions.

I have no idea if Tivo will have something for him, but he didn't deserve to be chastised for simply inquiring.

Actually he said "by TiVo themselves" which I took to mean by a rep. since he originally asked just for a promotional discount.

Maybe with that many people attending, TiVo can send one of their reps (the ones you used to see at CC etc.)

Just to clear the air...

I'm interested in getting a unit from TiVo to give away. I really don't care about paying for it but of course any type of discount would be great. My thinking is (as a TiVo fan that wants to see the company succeed) that it would be much better from a marketing standpoint to have a unit "endorsed" by the company with whatever else little promo items (like the antenna guys) than to say "here's a TiVo we picked up at Circuit City for ya!"

Of course we wouldn't really talk about the store we bought it from but I'd like the idea of TiVo providing a unit to a bunch of techies.

I'm really not trying to get a free meal here, it's in the budget to buy one, I'm just thinking about the presentation of it all.

Wouldn't you have better luck emailing TiVo's marketing department at the company's Web site? The AVS forum has no official ties to TiVo.

Next thing you know, people will be demanding that Dave come to their house in person and find those missing five minutes from the "Sopranos" season finale!
