Need WORKING SAT-T60 2.5 image - ice2.5t-60comp.bak image is bad
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello,
After pulling a bonehead move, i am in need of a WORKING SAT-T60 2.5 image. I tried downloading the 2.5 image from the FTP site that StanSimmons is promoting, but that image is bad. It goes into a reboot loop. I downloaded the 2.0.1 image, and that image works fine. The TiVo will boot up and start retrieving info from the satellite. So I know my TiVo is fine, the hard drive is fine, the jumper settings are fine, and the restore process works.
I can use the 2.0.1, HOWEVER, my TiVo came with 2.5. Is using an old image still a fauxpas? Will that still make me a Type 1 or 2 idiot?
Please help me find a working SAT-T60 2.5 image.

Did my first upgrade last night to one of my T-60s. I backed it up and tested the backup. I could email it to you when I get home from work in about 1.5 hours. Let me know if you don't find one sooner.

Using an image earlier than the one shipped with your TiVo would make you a Type I Moron.

I have an an older Sony T60 that came with 2.0.1 bits so that means I'm not a Type I Moron right? Anyway, I have the same situation.
The 2.5 bits you describe loop in reboot. The 2.0.1 bits run OK. The system will download 2.5 OK. It will unpack 2.5 OK. When it reboots to start 2.5 it loops in reboot forever.
Just a curious question, do you have a P4 card?
I'm wondering if there is a new security feature.
If you find a solution, I'd love to hear about it.
In the meantime, we have the phone line disconnected except to force a test call every once in a while. We did the "Clear and delete everything" and guided setup to enable 2.0.1 functionality once the test call completed. Having the phone disconnected prevents pointless downloads (which I assume TiVo likes) and pointless bit reloads (which I like).
If I don't get a better solution, we'll get a Series2 when they're out. If I do get a better solution, we'll get a Series2 when they're out.

Seattle, All -
I'm in the same boat guys.... My unmodified SAT-T60 I bought when they first came out died a few days ago and I didn't have a backup.
I found the FTP site and tried several times with the 2.5 image then realized it was bad. Successfully applied the 2.01 image and got it to work.
But when it downloaded 2.5 and updated, I'm in the same reboot loop as you guys.
What can we do?
I'm going to re-image 2.0.1 and NOT allow it to make a dialy call and update - I'll just to the test dials - but won't that annoying message about the daily update and not having Tivo functionality come up?
Would LOVE to get a working 2.5 image........
HELP!!!!!!!!
Regards,
Aaron

If your TiVoes are having problems with 2.5 downloaded from TiVo Inc, doesn't that suggest that the 2.5 image on the FTP site is OK and there's something wrong with the TiVoes themselves that prevents 2.5 from working?
Posted by: Seattle86
No, because before the upgrade, we were running 2.5.2

Actually, Robert S has a point. It's conceivable that your hard disk has a bad sector in a strategic location that's required when the downloaded 2.5 kicks in, but that wasn't used on your previous 2.5 installation or in the 2.0 in the downloaded image you obtained. Remember, TiVos have two root partitions, and which one is active changes after an upgrade. (During an upgrade, the TiVo downloads the new software and installs it in the unused root partition, then configures the system to boot from that partition when it reboots.) If your previous 2.5 and restored 2.0 both happen to use the same partition as root, then the bad one would only be used by the upgrade to 2.5.
If you've got a spare drive, you might try restoring 2.0 to it and see if you can then get a working system after a TiVo update. You might also try running a full (read-only) diagnostic on the drive; that's not guaranteed to reveal problems, but if it does turn up problems, it'll be strong evidence that Robert S is correct, and of course indicate a course of action: Replace the drive.

I bought a new WD 80GB hard drive to replace the main drive of my T60 dual-drive configuration.
All diagnostics show the drive is in good working order.

I don't know. Seems like too many folks are having the same problem after trying that apparently bad 2.5 image for the problem to be hardware related. Is it possible that bad image somehow messed up the drive? Could you do a low level format or something to get it back in a virgin state and then try to load working 2.5 image. I've got no clue, I'm a total newb at this, so I'll just shut up.
Aaron, I do have a good 2.5.2 image. Although, if I follow the trail right, it looks like it won't help your problem. Seattle86 tried my image after first trying that bad 2.5 image and is now having an additional problem. Although, my image is from a single drive t-60. Does that matter? If you'd like the image and got a place for me to send it, just let me know. Its ~180MB.

The error with Selurevad's image was an mfs decompression error. I'm still working on trying to fix that. Really there's no reason it shouldn't work for you. It probably has to do with my fancy new AMD XP 1800+. I'm gonna try and dig up an old dinosaur, and see if that helps.
I'll keep ya'll posted :)
P.S. I was able to get the 2.0.1 image updated to 2.5.2, but only as a single drive. When I add a second drive, it goes into a reboot loop.

Ok, I finally got Selurevad's image to work!! I finally ended up using my GF's pc (thanks dear :)) This time I got a Kernal Panic, but not until it was trying to clean up the restore. I popped the drive in the TiVo, and low and behold, it booted flawlessly! I now have 106 hr DirecTiVo with a genuine 2.5.2 image! I haven't tried using 2 drives, but I don't see why that wouldn't work now.
BTW, my "Factory Certified" 40GB Quantum fireball, that I got back with my Sony repaired TiVo only 1 week ago, was so shot, it took 30 minutes for XP to format it to FAT32, before it finally puked and blue screened on me. I had 20 pages of "Bad Block" errors in my System Log. Maybe that was part of my problem ;)
Anyway, major thanks to Selurevad for FTPing me the image. If anyone out there needs a working 2.5.2 image, PM me or Selurevad for FTP info.
Thanks all!

Woohoo. Glad I could give a little to help out the forum, after lurking here for a LONG time before finally making my own upgrade.

Hi guys. I have exactly the same problems described over and over in this forums. I have tried to restore my t60 tivo for a week now... no luck.
I was wondering if anyone could post a link to the working 2.5.2 image. Or can you please PM me the info.
Thanks in advance.
Kondzio.

My T-60 just died, and the 2.5 image causes reboots just like y'alls.
I'm running on a new hard drive, but I also have an AMD 1800XP.
Is the image good and the AMD the problem with decompressing it?
(or alternatively does anyone have a "good" 2.5?)

That 2.5 is bad. Does anybody have one they could send to me that's good?

After a lot of searching I found this thread. I hope one of you can assist me as well. :)
My unmodified Sony T-60 just had the hard disk fail as well. Since I never attempted to upgrade it before, I had no reason to have a backup of it.
Can someone please send me the link as well of where I can download the 2.5.2 image so I can install it to a new larger replacement drive?
Regards,
Aaron

Seeing the problems people are having with third party 2.5 images for the T60, I am wondering if the following would work better:
1. Restore a good 2.01 image to the A drive of the T60 using MFS Tools 2.0 (leaving out the "-s 127" as instructed in Hinsdale Step 8--i.e., using "mfsrestore -zpi" command).
2. Run the T60 as a single-drive unit for a day or so until it properly upgrades itself to 2.5.
3. Use MFS Tools 2.0 (i.e., using "mfsadd" command) to add a second hard drive once step 2. above is complete and one is satisfied the unit is working properly as a single-drive unit.
This would seem to follow my T60's original version/drive upgrade path. Advice would be much appreciated.

That may work. However in my situation, my SAT-T60 came out of the box with 2.5. I didn't want to take the chance of "Down Revving" to 2.1.

I am in the same boat as everyone else in this string. I have a Sat-t60 that I picked up from my sister that had the hard drive crash. I could really use an image to put on this baby so I can get it working. I bought an 80 gb drive to replace the original.
Thanks!

I have the same problem.. my hard drive it out and I'm stuck on the 'welcome powering up' screen also.
I don't have a backup image either. Can you send me the same link to get a copy of 2.5 image?
Or would it be better just to purchase a replacement drive in your opinion.. I'm a newbie.... so i'm not sure.. what's best... but i tihnk i could replace/restore it on my own to save a few bucks.
thanks

I've got a 20 hr. Philips but can't seem to make an image of it. Can someone point me to where I can find an image?
Thanks!
