Why is my TiVo locking up?

I haven't been to these forums in a long time, so I don't know what's been going on, but I've been running my upgraded Phillips Tivo for a couple of years with little problem, but lately I've been turning on the TV in the morning to find my TiVo locked up solid (what is this, Windows?).
It comes right back after reboot and seems fine. At least until it does it agian. I notice that it's running 3.0-01-1-000 (I don't have any idea when it upgraded last). Is this a common problem, or do I have something weird going on?

Does the video ever stutter?

Yeah, a little bit. Sometimes I get a recording that is barely watchable, but most of the time it's okay. Funny, when I first upgraded it, it went for about a year with no stutter at all, then it got so bad I couldn't use it. I took it apart and ran diagnostics on the drives (no errors) and put it back together and it ran perfect for a long time (???). I'm more concerned with this lock-up thing now.
