Greetings,
I just searched for series2 tivo on eBay and came up with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=1378967217
From what I can see there is only one Series2 TiVo on sale on eBay, by someone getting HDTV and therefore selling his Series2 upgraded to 324 hours!
He mentions that it's brand new, only opened up for upgrading, and that it voided the warranty by doing so. Is that true? Is there a way to get a TiVo repaired if it goes bad, and who does that? What's a good price for this "like new" TiVo upgraded to 324 hours?
Thanks,

I don't think TiVo would repair it, the warranty is voided when it was upgraded. However, there are some very smart people out there like Hinsdale who do repairs on upgraded TiVos.

The warranty was history as soon as he opened the box. But there are a number of people here that can fix anything that can go wrong. Usually it's the hard drive or the modem. If you upgrade yourself you will know enough to replace a blown drive. The modem was the other item on the Series 1 units that would go out (though not as often as it would seem from reading this forum). The modem can be repaired. But the best part is if you have a broadband connection you can use a USB-Ethernet adapter.
The unit on eBay cost him $399 plus shipping or tax plus the cost of the 120 and 160GB drives. Since he replaced both drives I wonder why he didn't buy the AT&T TiVo for $299?
Next ask yourself if you really need 344 hours. To the TiVo/ATT Series 2 unit that has 60/40 hours at basic quality you can add a single 80/120 drive and get an additional 95/150 hours (approximately)
If you want to do the upgrade yourself check out the Hinsdale How-To.
Or you can buy a read-to-install drive from a number of vendors including Hinsdale, PTVUpgrade.com, Weaknees.com and others.
Good luck.
