Doing "initial setup" over PPP connection
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Thanks to many good posts and how-to's, I now have PPP working between my Linux box and my Tivo. I have enabled IP forwarding and NAT on the Linux box, so I can now telnet into my tivo from both my Linux box and another Windows box on my network.
That is the good news. The bad news is, I still can't get it to do the initial setup over the PPP connection. It still seems to want to do the call over the modem, which is dead as a doornail.
So, does anybody know how I can get it to skip the dial-up connection and just use the existing PPP connection to do its setup?
On another thread, I saw talk about using an external modem by setting the dial-prefix to ",#319", but my software is still version 1.3, so from what I can gather, that won't work for me.
Any help, tips, or links to a useful How-To appreciated!!

I am trying to fake out Tivo to think the modem is working OK in hopes that I can get past the "failed" status I'm getting during the "connecting" phase of setup. Looking at /var/log/tvlog, I can see that it is sending a "AT\&V1\&V2" to the modemtest script.
I tried replacing the modemtest executable with a shell script that just does an "echo OK", and I can see in the log that it got my "OK" response, but that's apparently not what it's looking for. When I do "AT&V1&V2" on my PC modem, I get a whole bunch of stuff like this:

Does anybody know how the Tivo modem responds to "AT&V1&V2" so I can put that in my script?
Posted by: rsantag
OK, I have gotten further. By adding "SETUP_BYPASS=1" to the boot parameters, it now boots into the Tivo Main Menu (Hallelujah! I thought I would never see it again!)
Now I just need to figure out how to set my channels and I'm in business. Seems to be some TCL scripts floating around to do this.
Anybody have any experience with these, or any tips?
