Sorry for being such a newbe but I am trying to get newtext2osd running but am having no luck. I unzipped and untarred the program to my /var/hack/bin folder. What do I do now? I read the readme but it didnt have anything about installation... I tried just running the program but no dice...
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.:)

newtext2osd will display a file on the screen of your tivo. If you have unzipped and untared newtext2osd, and chmod +x the file, executing it with no parameters will give you the options. I can't tell from your post what specific problem you are having.

chmod +x ? I have used chmod before as I did this time. What should go in place of the +x?
I keeps giving me a 'command not found' error...

Do you have tivobin tools installed? They can be found on PVRHack .
chmod +x filename
or
chmod 755 filename
adds execute permission to the file. Do an "ls -l filename" to see if the file has execute permission, viz.,
bash-2.02# ls -l foo1.tcl foo2.tcl
-rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 1234 Aug 19 07:38 foo1.tcl
-rw-r--r-- 1 0 0 5678 Sep 10 07:39 foo2.tcl
shows foo1.tcl has execute permission, and foo2.tcl doesn't.

Thanks, didnt realize it should be in the same dir as the tivobin tools. Works great now...

It doesn't need to be in the same directory. In all likelihood, you don't have the tivobin tools directory in your path, but you do have the current directory. Thus, it works if you are in that directory, but not others.
