Is Sporanos Letterboxed this year?

I was looking through the Sopranos listings this weekend, and I noticed that it's not showing on HBO2 this season. They used to air the show on HBO2 in Letterbox, while HBO showed it in 4:3. Does anybody know if HBO is airing The Sopranos in Letterbox this season?

I thought it was the other way around, widescreen on HBO and full screen on HBO2? I certainly would think they plan on continuing to show widescreen and can't think of any reason why they wouldn't, except for J6P.

I'm pretty sure that the Letterboxed version was on HBO2, because ,several friends came over to my house to see it widescreen. None of them had Digital Cable yet.
The reason I ask about this is becasue the TiVo data doesn't show a Letterbox tag.

I disagree. The widescreen was on HBO.

Haps is correct.
But was it a true widescreen presentation? I mean is that the original aspect ratio intended by the director, or is it just filmed full framed and then matted, thus, having the widescreen show LESS of the picture and not more.

It is filmed widescreen, and always has been.

The description for the first episode is so long that there is no room for any 'letterbox' tag. The description in the main program guide falls off the end with "(CC,". There's a bit more data in the live guide if you page down to Sunday: there it ends with "(CC,Stereo,SAP," so it's still impossible to see if there is supposed to be a 'letterbox' on the end. Note that the Showcase "Season 4 Preview" is widescreen. I suspect the season is widescreen, and the 'letterbox' tag will show up in future episodes which have shorter descriptions.

I have a Sopranos questions and wasn't sure where else to put it. I'll log it in here, as it doesn't appear to justify a new thread. :)
(By the way, I thought both HBO and HBO2 both showed Sopranos in letterbox on my Digital cable system, but I am just going from memory.:)
Question-Both in print articles and also on the show itself, I have seen Christopher referred to as Tony's nephew. How could he possible be Tony's nephew when we know that Tony only has two siblings (the two sisters) and he is not their son? I don't think he is a son of Carmella's siblings as I believe we have been introduced to them also. She doesn't refer to Christopher as her nephew.
Did I miss something in Season One?

According to the Sopranos' official web site, Christopher's grandmother is Carmela's aunt.

The guide data for next week's episode (09/22) has the letterbox tag. Last year the show aired on HBO (letterbox) and HBO2 (pan & scan). I had to go with a SP instead of an ARWL for this reason. The year I only see episodes on HBO (and HBOW which is still HBO, just three hours later) on my DirecTiVo.

Thanks Medievel Guy for your answer!:) I have posed it to several diehard Sopranos fans and never gotten a straight answer.
I guess it intrigued me because I am a bit of a genelogy buff.:)
Not that it really matters, but if Christopher's grandmother is Carmela's aunt, then actually that makes Carmella and Christopher "first cousins, once removed". Carmella is not Christopher's aunt. So really Christopher is Tony's "first cousin once removed in-law".
LOL, I can see why the writers just decided to call him a "nephew".:)

I was rather disappointed. I didn't get it in HD on my HBO-HD channel. I just got the basic showing, no dolby and no high-def signal...should I call someone and complain, or did no one get it in HD?

I did get it in Dolby Digital on my SDTV.

I got it in widescreen and Dolby Digital on my HDTV rig.

I too received it in HD and DD5.1. However, I did seem to notice a reduction in PQ from that of last year. Maybe it was just me, but it had a darker, grainier look.

Yes, I thought the picture quality on regular SDTV looked worse than last year...OR maybe I need an eye checkup.

I thought the SD picture was so bad that I recalibrated my set with Video Essentials... looks much better now :)
I'm going to catch the HD version later this week. (See sig...)
