Letterman from 9/17/01

Does anyone still have their copy of The Late Show with David Letterman from Sept 17 of last year? This was his first night back on the air after 9/11 and was, IMHO, a pretty powerful piece of television.

I was mentioning is today at work, and several people in the office would really like to see it. Alas, I found my CD and somewhere along the line it has gotten scratched and is no longer readable.

I know that VCD was passed around to a pretty large number of forum members last year. Anyone still have their copy and feel like helping me out?

I still have it on my TiVo...and, of course, I was the one who did the VCD cap. Drop me a PM and I'll see if I can get another copy to you.

I still have the VCD (I'm pretty sure). If you PM me (scr#w that Pan guy :) ) I'll make a copy and send it out to you. I think I even have a few CD mailers lying around.

I believe it may still be on the Late Show web site, just the opening of that show where Dave is sitting there and talks about what has happened. Just go to cbs.com click on Late Show.

Edit:I don't see it there, I know I had a few months ago, but they must have taken it down (or I just haven't looked in the right place).

The more I think about, the more it seems appropriate to REPOST it to alt.binaries.multimedia.

Look for it to be posted by user "Sifo-Dyas" sometime over the next couple of days! :)

Yes, excellent. I had already checked there, but no dice.

Lot's of other 9/11 related stuff being posted today, though.

Ok, if you PM me, not only will i get you a copy of the VCD, but I will hand deliver it to your house, and rake the leaves out of your gutters.

Is there anywhere else I could get that? I guess my ISP doesnt carry alt.binaries.multimedia (thought I dont see why not, they seem to carry everything else)

Get a free subscription to www.easynews.com , they will give you three days or 1 gig? and cut off your account when you reach the limit. No charge, you will have to provide a cc but they will not auto-renew/auto-subscribe you.

Since it will be posted via Easynews, that's one way to guarantee all the parts will be complete.

Posted by: bonehead

I see it coming through now. Looks like it's propogating to GigaNews perfectly.

Thanks Pan! It's much appreciated!

Sure...took a break from posting...I stopped at part12, but will continue later. Should've yEnc'ed it, but did it in uuencode instead. Oh well. <shrug>

I remember watching it and liking. Alas, I don't have a copy, either.

Posted by: bonehead

Looks like it'll be completed on usenet before long, you should grab a copy. Otherwise I could mail you a CD once I get my copy downloaded.

I'm trying to put together a collection of some of the better coverage of 9/11 to archive away and show to my grandchildren someday if they ever ask about it. Things that do more than just relay facts, but things that grab the emotion of the moment. I really wish I had access to stuff like that from my grandparents regarding Pearl Harbor and WWII.

Post is now complete and verified on Easynews...for some bizarre reason a LOT of parts didn't post correctly and had to be re-posted...but they're okay now. Hopefully they propagated to other servers adequately as well (there are 6 PAR files to reconstruct up to that many RAR files if necessary). :)

Posted by: bonehead

Yep, they made it through to GigaNews just fine. Most of the files were even complete on Mediacom's server.

Thanks again!

Could someone point me to place that I can learn how to use .par files? Or is there a specific utility that I should be using?

Any help is appreciated.

Doug

Posted by: harvscar

Use FSRaid, it's fantastically easy to use. Read the notes at the bottom of the page on what .par files are and how to use the tool.
