Everwood - Talkback (SPOILERS!!)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

We will probably be getting a thread like this on all new shows.
So here we go...
I was not too thrilled about watching this, but I needed something while TIVO was getting ahead of the football game.
Let me premise by saying that I grew up in a town like that in Colorado. I know what his wife meant by that is what heaven must look like.
Pilot's are always on the fence (I realized this when watching the CSI pilot last night). So we may have to wait until next week to see what changes were made.
All in all not a bad show, WB it seems is going after the Once and Again crowd. And it should do well with the 7th Heaven lead in.

I've only watched about 3/4 of it, but I'll say this: the scene btwn the father & his son after he drove him home was intense. The rest of the show was a bit predictable and gooey. You're kind of left wondering: what the heck are the going to do each week? And as one reviewer said, what doctor is that famous that the town would be talking about him like that, even if he had been mentioned in Time magazine.
Agreed that it is a good match for the 7th Heaven lead in audience.

Also, what doctor is so rich he can provide medical care for free? (Only Microsoft can do that. :D)
In the real world, the local AMA chapter probably would haul him up on charges. He also would be swamped with patients. Everwood can't be that remote.
I know, I know... it's a fantasy.
I did like the fact that the local sawbones isn't a kindly old Marcus Welby type but a snotty b*st*rd who's gotten lazy because he had a monopoly.
And didn't that bus driver also do the narration for It Could Happen To You with Nic Cage and Bridget Fonda? ;)

It's a stretch, but one would presume he will be called away for operations that do pay from time to time.
And I doubt the AMA would be upset at a doctor opening what amounts to a free clinic.

So how many episodes will it take before he operates on the comatose Collin, and Collin wakes up -- just in time to butt into the budding relationship between Ephram and Amy?
I figure, two, three at the most.

The show had its charms and its weaknesses. It's season pass-worthy for the time being, but it's going to have to improve. Right now it could go either way. The writing was just atrocious, but they had a lot of story to tell in a short amount of time. I'll forgive them that - this once.
They pushed the show as a quirky, Northern Exposure type experience, but I didn't see anything really quirky. The twist of who the nurse turned out to be was the closest thing, and even that was fairly predictable.
I got a bit nervous when Treat Williams crossed the streets against traffic without even looking at the cars, and the cars all stopped, just in time. It was so obvious that I could see that as a running "gag" on the show, and it was so not funny.
If they highlight the relationships between father and son, father and daughter, son and townspeople, it'll be fine. If they have miracle doctor saving everybody in town, talking to his dead wife all the time and solving medical mysteries while he stops traffic - it'll be a quick SP delete.

I'll second that; the stuff on your blog is way better, Ann!

Wow, thank you!
My problem is thinking up subjects. I have wonderful ideas as I'm drifting off to sleep, but by the time I wake up, I can't remember them. :)
Back to the show.....

Ok I haven't watched Everwood yet, but this made me panic for a second. then I remembered Tnn started CSI again...:)
Oh and the AMA wouldn't care if you gave medical advice for free, as long as you didn't take more than one pen when the drug rep came to tell you about their new drug.

Just my 2 cents...
I really enjoyed Everwood. Sure, there were some ridiculous scenes, but there were some touching moments, and some really funny scenes too.
This show has real potential, and I'll be keeping the SP for at least a few episodes. It struck me as a cross between Northern Exposure and Providence.

After watching Everwood I must say it will be a keeper. Especially since they rerun it on Sunday at 6:00, so it will beeasier to juggle any potential conflicts. I guess I can relate being the son of a doctor which definitely helps.

Just watched it last night. I thought it was decent, and fairly charming. And if it's always winter in Everwood, then at least the scenery will always be gorgeous...
Yes, some of the dialogue was lame, but I thought all of the performances were right on (except the realtor lady - I always hate that actress. Yuck), even Treat Williams talking to himself. Is he always going to talk to his wife though? Or was that a one episode only trick?
The other thing I liked was that it wasn't TOO Northern Exposure. Like Justa said, nobody was really that quirky. I hope they keep it that way.

My wife and I watched it last night and she likes it better than I. It's just too unreal (unlike most tv shows). How about that impromptu 3-4 hour bus trip to see the comatose kid? So realistic.
Is the dead wife played by the same actress who was Sally the slut in the 2am slot on old SportsNight? Kind of looks like her.

To sum up this show: treacle. Even my wife couldn't watch it, and she likes ER.

Just a few quick things on this show. First off I’ve never been quite so shocked to have actually liked a show as I was by this one. I was sitting there sure I wouldn’t enjoy it and found myself getting into it despite myself. Oh well, guess I can get sucked into a quasi sappy family drama too. And here I was thinking gritty, edgy stuff like the Shield or the Sopranos was my thing.
Kudos to efilippi, it took me quite a while before I realized that was Sally Sasser (sp?) from Sports Night, and that was one of my favorite shows of all time. As they were sitting on the porch last episode it finally hit me.
I’ve also got to take umbrage with the claim that its unrealistic that the town would know who he was. Get a small enough town and it’ll happen. I consider myself a “city person” now, but I was born in a REAL small town in the south. When my parents moved there they moved in at like 9:00 one night.
The next day my mom went to work (school teacher) and my mom’s students wanted to know who the man she was living with was, and if that was her husband. My mom’s a good teacher, but she’s never been in Time magazine, so I fully believe they would know who the big doctor from New York City is.

Wow. Didn't see that hermaphrodite thing coming.
It's odd. This show is way too sappy and wholesome and 7th Heavenish for me, and yet I still watch it every week. Can't say why, but SP stays for now. ;)

That hermaphrodite thing threw me off a bit too. Every week I find myself liking this show more... Hrhm... So what does everyone think about the "pending" operation?

what is the hermaphrodite thing? i just started watching this show 3 weeks ago.

The hermaphrodite was a boy who was bullying Delia at school. They eventually warmed up to each other and were playing at his house when he suggested dressing up -- as girls. His parents caught them and banned Delia because they were trying to raise him as a male and didn't want him to be in touch with his feminine side.

Ok, thanks.. I saw the episode tonight where she was being bullied.. strange. I also vaguely remember reading a thread about Everwood before i registered here that said something about the show dealing with Ephram and masturbation. I found that kinda hard to believe, but when i saw tonights episode where he is doing his laundry and his dad says something to the effect of "I used to have raging hormones myself" Is that what whoever was posting was talking about? I wish I would have watched this from the premiere but I didnn't so I am sorta lost. :)

why are there re-runs already? Because it's a pilot show the season is shortened with fewer shows?
Posted by: andyf
The WB seems to be re-running most of their shows right now. Xmas to blame?
Posted by: John Kador
November sweeps is over, so most shows will run a lot of reruns until late january or february, when february sweeps starts.
