Waits on GSOD for 30 seconds, reboot, repeat

We finished watching a previously recorded show, got the menu to save or delete. I choose delete. The tivo paused for about 30-60 seconds then it rebooted on its own.

I saw the please wait (black with Tivo Character) then I saw the "Almost there..." screen. Then green screen ("Severe Error").

After about 30 seconds it reboots and repeats the same procedure.

If I hold down pause when I see the kickstart light I get the double orange lights. I then hit 5 2 ( the one to switch partitions. Instead of the almost there screen I see a message that says "Please wait while loading new software". It then reboots and does the same GSOD procedure.

At this point, I am think of opening the Tivo (it is unmodified) and replacing the HD. I would like to just start from scratch.

Can some one send me a link to where I can download a 3.0 image for a Sony standalone 30 hour series I unit?

Or can someone give me any more ideas of what to try next.

I would say that TiVo's hard drive is dead. You'll have to start from a backup - there's no way to get a backup off a machine stuck on a green screen.

(If an upgraded machine does this you can try the 'rescue' maneuver from the Fixes thread).

Just wanted to say thanks. I had a spare harddrive (seagate 40gig 5400rpm). Took the base 2.0.1 image and restored it.

Put it in the Tivo and it booted fine and everything was working.

I am now running powermax on the old quantum drive to see if there were issues with the drive.
