Write Protected Hard Drive -- Read Only
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just bought a new Maxtor 80 GB 5400 RPM to upgrade my DirecTIVO.
Since I bought a Maxtor HD I ran the qunlock program just in case the HD was locked.
When I boot off the my TIVO boot cd and login as root I get a message telling me that the new HD is write protected and that it is read only.
Since the drive is read only I can't run the restore program to load the software onto the new HD.
Please help! What do I need to do.

Very strange. Hard drives aren't normally write protected, for obvious reasons. Drive locking only affects original TiVo drives and makes them appear to be ~10Mb in size, but you can write to those 10Mb.
At what point does the error message appear? Can you partition the drive with FDISK from DOS?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I do believe you are misinterpreting the message you are seeing. If you are referring to the line at the beginning that sees something to the effect "Block device /dev/hdb mounted read only", then that is referring to the CD-ROM drive.
