How does the "Best" / "Live" quality of Series2 compare to Series1? I imagine it might be slight, but slight changes in compression improvements or signal-to-noise improvements can be substantial when combined.

There are plenty of topics about TiVo Series 2 picture quality. So far, all of them have described the picture quality as somewhat to significantly degraded compared to TiVo series 1s even at Best quality. This seems to be due to the Broadcom MPEG chip that was chosen.

TiVo OS version 3.2 (first seen on the new 80 hour TiVo Series 2s) seems to have much improved picture quality over the 3.0 software. There's 1-2 threads about that too.

Hopefully someone will have a picture quality shootout between TiVo OS 3.2 on a Series 2 and TiVo OS 3.0 on a Series 1 and give us a report (including snapshots)!
Congrats on 2,500 posts by the way. Nobody notices when I hit any major posting milestone (maybe they do with a collective groan :)).

Initially I didn't detect much difference, however after living with both for a while, I find slightly more pixelation with the Series 2 for sporting events recorded at best.
It will be interesting to see if the 3.2 makes a difference. I expect to see many "when am I getting 3.2 wahhhh!!!" threads popping up here soon.
