LWT to close?

Rumour has it that the LWT is to close (Late October) after 35 years of broadcasting. It is to be replaced in London by a 7 day "ITV-1" branded station (Owned by Carlton).

How long before the rest of ITV goes the same way?

Anyone got any more info?

It is not actually closing - but is disappearing.

The whole network will be known as ITV1 - or ITV1 Wales etc.

Yep - the on-screen LWT and Carlton brands will disappear as presentation and continuity identities, along with most other ITV1 regional franchise names like Anglia, Granada, Yorkshire etc. They will mainly be referred to as ITV1. I believe that UTV in Northern Ireland, and Scottish and Grampian may not be taking part in the rebrand, but I think HTV Wales is going to rebrand as ITV1 Wales.

LWT (part of Granada Media Group) will continue to exist and make programmes - it is only the on-screen bits between the programmes that will change. I believe the end copyright boards will continue to refer to an LWT / Carlton / Anglia / Meridian etc. production...
