Upgrading with in Windows with Linux partition

My upgraded Tivo recently received the green screen of death and I tried to test and repair my tivo on a linux box, but the bios doesn't seem to be able to handle the 80gig drives I have to check and repair.
Is it possible to run a Linux partition on a Windows machine to re format and install all the new software on my Tivo Hardrives? If so, what software would you reccomomend and what other advice might you give.?. Thanks!!

You would normally do this sort of job with MFS Tools (see Hinsdale's post above). MFS Tools is available on a bootable CD or floppy which boots into a Linux environment modified to be able to read the TiVo disks (although MFS Tools itself does not require this support - you can run it from any Linux install).
You can therefore use your Windows box. Linux has read-only support for NTFS, so you can't create backups on NT/2k/XP drives formatted that way (and Windows NT/2k/XP will destroy a TiVo drive if it boots when one is connected!).
However, the important thing is not whether the BIOS detects your 80Gb drive, but whether Linux does (use dmesg | more to review the boot log). You might have to set the BIOS to 'None' for this to happen.
