Sears Warranty Coverage

Can anyone comment on how Sears handles warranty coverage for older Series I units?

I purchased mine in October 2000, and I'm beginning to hear the hard drive make a new semi-grindy noise. The unit is still running great, just a bit louder now.

My only concern is how Sears handles this coverage since they don't sell TiVOs anymore? If my unit dies in the next couple of months, I want to know what to expect.

Does anyone have any experience in the past year? What did they do?

Thanks.

You did get a contract when you paid for the extended warranty, right? Reading that contract will tell you everything you need to know about the specific extended warranty coverage you bought.

Typically, these contracts call for them to (at their sole discretion) either repair your unit, replace it with a similar product, or refund your money. My guess is that they'll probably not hassle with you and just give you back what you paid. Although it's been at least 10 years since I bought *anything* at Sears...

Thanks for posting.

Yes, I got an extended warranty contract and I have read it.

I am hoping to see what people have actually experienced with any TiVo returns with Sears.

Is there anyone left on this forum who bought a Series I from Sears? Any returns to mention?

Strange...I guess I'm in an extremely small group....

I got my 312 from Sears, and when I started to get the green screen of death, they just ordered a brand new one and gave it to me, so i ended up with a second remote, and a new Tivo*..

My replacement got lighning struck earlier this year and I called them and asked what would happen if I brought this one back, they said they would send it in for repairs (ug, I dont want that , it could take weeks) or they would have to refund my money as they no longer carry the units (Assuming they could not fix it).. I decided to go with the 9th tee TivoNet card so I really cant tell you more than that. The idea of having some idgit with a screwdriver play with my tivo just couldnt be bared, especially when I could just fix it for about $50..

*edit, Tivo commuted my lifetime to the brand new unit without a problem
