5 MIN buffer and Jon Doe still gets cutt off!

I tell you, I am batting 0. Had Tivo a few days so far, and not recorded a entire episode yet. I even buffered all my shows now, canceling season passes and making manual recordings, and tonight, Jon Doe was cut at the end with a 5 min buffer. Either my system clock is way fubar, or all the networks bite for timeing.

My SP is set to start and end on time. I usually lose about 30 seconds of the opening (it's always on the end of my Firefly recording). I watched last night's show this morning and it seemed to be complete.
Could it be your local FOX station which is causing the problem? If your TiVo's clock is messed up, you'd see the same effects across the board.
When was your last successful call? That should reset the clock.

Successful calls every day. You may have a point though, as I am in a isolated alaska community, with all the satalite hops etc... it could be why my other posts of EVERY network being off schedule. Only prob is there is no manual method to change system clock if so. I may have no fix, if it is in fact my provider, other than making all manual recordings, start earlier and end later. I think I need to start watching TV at beginning of hour and see what time things actually start and end.

Well, with John Doe .. I'm wondering if your problem was due to the baseball game running a bit long ..
My airing actually cut into the show about 8 minutes into it .. rather than pushing it .. yours might have just aired it a little later?
I would just pad all your FOX shows during the rest of the Baseball Playoffs/Series so this doesn't happen to you .. ifyou can, go up to a half hour.
Also, be aware (see other thread) that there is a speech on Monday @ 8:00pm by the President .. East coast showings should be significantly tweaked .. West Coast usually works out okay.
Don't give up hope, it'll all straighten itself out .. keep the season passes .. just be aware of "unusual circumstances" (presidential addresses/sporting events) that could tweak things.
And keep an eye on this forum for heads up.
Good luck to you . And if no one else has said it, Welcome to the TiVolution!

Dont think that was it Mircl. As mentioned I have yet to record a succesful program in entirty yet, no matter what network. Dont think it was baseball, am beginning to think it is actually as mentioned above, my provider. Will post what I find out, going to start looking on the hour and keeping track of start, end times.

Sorry, I missed your other post in the Help Center where you talked about this being a problem on more than one network. Your troubleshooting will be complicated by the fact that a lot of networks play fast and loose with their time schedules.
Dealing with this will be frustrating, I know, but don't forget that special cases like this will be frustrating no matter what system you use. Even if you stay with your VCR for your primary recorder, TiVo is still useful to search listings, watch out for schedule changes, figure out if episodes are repeats or first run, and so on. I use my TiVo as a 'brain' for my VCR often since I only have 1 standalone TiVo and get conflicts; to record 2 shows at the same time I still have to schedule one of them on my VCR.
You might find some useful tips in the "advice to new users thread", where I posted about my recent adventures while watching the first episode of John Doe:

Hope you can resolve your problem -- welcome to the TiVolution!

OH I wouldnt fret, I spent the cash, I refuse to dump it in favor of a VCR, I just need to experiment a bit to see what the problem is. Looking at channels the last couple hours, and they are all starting-ending on time and in line with the scheduler. Wierd if this is happening only at night. Either that, or for some reason my Tivo is not using the padding I set into it.

I see that these posts are from the west coast. Here in the NY area, John Doe wasn't shown on Friday. Instead it is scheduled for Sunday (tomorrow) at 6pm. As there is a football game before it, I'm padding it 30 minutes.

klondikejim, I know the network affiliate stations in Hawaii tend to put in extra local commercials during the network prime-time shows, thus causing shows to start later, and get even later as the evening progresses. They can do it because they're taping most everything to show a couple of hours later, rather than putting the network satellite feed on the air directly the way the mainland affiliates do.
From your description, it sounds like that may be the case in Alaska, too.

I'd change that padding to an hour. I've frequently seen football games go over 45 minutes.
I just hope Fox11 is smart enough to not "join it in progress" since it's a re-airing caused by them "joining it already in progress" the first time.

You might be the first Alaskan to actually notice that your local affiliates are playing games with the start/stop time. ;)
You could complain to them about it...

Instead of the show starting late, it started early!!! About 5:15, so I only caught the last 15 minutes.

Yeah. I recorded it Friday night on Fox-west. The first few minutes were baseball. I decided to just delete it, since I knew the ending would be missing.
Then, I noticed it was on Fox-east on Sunday, so I recorded it again. This time only the end of it was recorded. If only I'd saved the Fox-west recording, I could have seen the whole thing.
I then said F-you Fox and deleted the John Doe wishlist.

Actually, they joined it in progress at about 10 minutes in, so you would have gotten the ending. It was fairly easy for me to figure out what was happening despite missing the first five or six minutes of actual program material, but it wasn't the ideal situation, obviously.
