I mentioned this in another thread, but though it desserved its own. I'm a little shocked no one else posted this a month ago when it was first announced.

The Shield, season 1 is coming to DVD January 7th, the same day as the premiere of season 2. I love this show, and, from the sound of the article, they're going to treat it well.

It really is great to see that networks, Fox especially, embracing DVD as a way to release their shows. This is the fastest tournaround I've ever seen between original air and release. Very cool stuff.

24 (another Fox show) was a lot quicker (ended May, DVD September; Shiled ended June, DVD January), but I agree with your sentiment. With these two shows, at least, Fox is giving up on the usual concept of milking the syndication/rerun money for all it's worth before the DVD release, and instead using the DVD as promotion for the next season. Personally, I hope this catches on; I'm all for anything that gets the stuff out there sooner (Buffy, oh Buffy, wherefore the heck art thou, Buffy, and yes, I know what "wherefore" means).
