Is it possible to save to DVD?

Hello,
I can successfully save to VCR, however I am curious if it is possible to save to a DVD? Do you know if Tivo plans to support this feature in the future?
I have installed the TurboNet kit and would consider becoming more knowledgeable on transferring the program to my computer which has a DVD writer, however I assume that the file format would need conversion?
Thank you in advance.

I just purchased a Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD recorder...I am using the TIVO save to vcr function to send movies to the HS2's Line 1 input...Doing this, I can record the movie directly to a DVD-R 4.7gb disk...Works great so far...Even found a web site that sells DVD-R media for $.85 cents each...Can't beat that...
The only issue I have right now with this approach is I do not think that the TIVO video at best quality setting is as good as my Ultimate TV...I may switch over to using that for recording movies that I want to copy over to the DVD recorder...

Judging from your "Best quality" comment you must be referring to a standalone TiVo. A standalone can't beat the direct-digital quality of an integrated satellite receiver/PVR. If you had a DirecTiVo the TiVo quality should be the same as your UltimateTV.

If quality is an issue why wouldn't you copy directly from the source (cable box or whatever) to the hard disk (or DVD-R/RW) of the DMR-HS2? Omits one link of the chain altogether. Less convenient to set recordings, but better quality.

F.Y.I. Any talk about how to extract video files directly from the TiVo is a banned subject on this forum. If you want to do that you need to do an internet search for other web sites that have that info.
It's much easier though to just capture or record from the TiVo analog video output as others have described earlier in this thread.

Yep, it's a stand alone TIVO...With Cable and DirectTV...Can't connect up cable with a DirecTIVO, so I will stick with the SA...The Ultimate TV will be just fine for dubbing over to DVD-R's...

I can set timers on the DVD recorder, but it's not nearly as user friendly as TIVO or Ultimate TV...Plus it's not a DirectTV receiver...So I would have to set TIVO to record a movie and a timer on the DVD recorder...Then after it's recorded to the recorders hard disk drive, I would have to edit it to set the beginning and ending frames, etc...
The DVD recorder does have a regular tuner...I might look into connecting the cable to it to see what the quality ends up being...
I like the "Save to VCR" function on the TIVO...Will just have to see how the quality of the movies holds up...
