running "script" from Steven Jenkin's MSDOS boot disk

I am in the process of upgrading and hacking my HDR31203.
(thanks to many members of this forum).
Everything is moving along well, but when I try to run the script, I get a message that the directory or file doesn't exist. I can see
and edit) the file. What am I missing? I NEED the network connection.
Can anyone help me out?

Assuming this is actually a Linux boot disk rather than MSDOS, you may have to specify that path, even if the script is in the current directory. Try ./script rather than script.

Thanks for your suggestion. The disk is MSDOS. The PC is booted with LINUX OS, but the instructions say to copy the files to an MSDOS disk.
I did try the ./script, but with the same results.
Maybe there is a command that the script file is supposed to be called from?? I'd even be willing to type everything in from the command line, if I knew more about LINUX.
If you have any more ideas, please let me know.

Ah, so it's not an MS DOS boot disk, it's just a FAT-12 floppy that's used to make files available under Linux.
It might help if you mention the name of the file you're trying to execute - I'm left with an unsettling feeling that you actually typed ./script, although you seem a relatively inteligent fellow.
It may also be that you need to call the interpreter explicitly - normally that happens automatically. So you might have to do something like
sh /mnt/floppy/script
Can you link to the document you're working from?

There are a couple of things which are confusing the issue. The filename is actually "script". The second is that there are a couple sets of instructions out there. The one I am referring to says to format a dos disk with the /s parameter.
I am learning as I go... I will get back to you, but wanted to thank you for such a quick reply. I am currently typing everything from the command line.
Even if that works, I want to solve the "script" mystery. If it doesn't, will forward the instruction file to you and a link to the source material to see what you can decipher.
Thanks again.

The DOS disk is only used as a carrier so you can download some files in Windows and then make them available to the system when you are booted in Linux; there's nothing called "script" that I can find a reference to anywhere in Steve's document. There are some scripts you will create in Linux later on, but that's long past the point you've used the DOS floppy.
The /s parameter of the format command tells Windows to make the DOS disk bootable, and is unecessary unless you have a locked Quantum hard drive you are trying to upgrade because in that case you would need to boot into DOS and run the qunlock.exe program. If you don't have a quantum drive, you can ignore the /s paramter and just make a blank DOS-formatted floppy.

Thanks, "Giant Purple..."
That is what I thought as well, but successive failures wore away my confidence. My real problem was mixing some old instruction with new.
I now have the files on my TiVo "a" drive, but...
my LAN is connected to a cable modem and the IP information is handled by them. I typed in valid information from on of the workstations and took it off-line. I wasn't able to ping or telnet to that address. if you (or anyone else) can help me limp along, maybe I can get the job finished.
Thanks...
