Boomtown, revisited

I know there is another thread on Boomtown but I don't really care.

I watched the second episode last night and I have to say this is definitely my favorite new drama. The cast is fantastic and they all get a good amount of screen time. Though Ray is my favorite character, how awesome is Neal McDonough as David McNorris?

Give this show a shot and don't let it die after only a few weeks. It has the potential for a long life without being formulaic. It is also one of few original concepts I have seen this season. It sure beats John Doe (aka The Pretender Revisited) and CSI: Miami (and unlike everyone else in the world, I like David Caruso). Heck, I certainly like it better than any of the current iterations of Law&Order.

Next on my "Please don't let it die list", MDs.

I missed last night's show. I coudl have sworn I set a season pass for it. I had the Pilot episode from last week. But when I went to watch last night's show, it wasn't in my "Now Playing" list. A quick scan of the SP Manager revealed no SP for it... :(

Oh well.. At least the show is a bunch of stand alone episodes. I really won't miss anything.

did anyone else notice the words "Boomtown" in the lower corner of the screen

Yes, I noticed it, and I hated it. If you're intelligent enough to follow the story, you should be intelligent enough to know what you're watching.

Great show, though. I recorded both episodes and then watched them back to back last night - it's definately a SP keeper.

This week, I especially liked the little stories with the guest stars...they were comic gems, completely unexpected.

The amazing thing about this show is that it has such a "polished" look to it. Something you usually don't see in a frosh drama.

10/6 episode was very clever.

I've got how ever many episodes of Boomtown there has been on my TiVo. I haven't gotten around to watching it, but I'm pretty sure it's my kind of show.

I have seen a lot of consumer surveys from NBC focusing on opinions on Sunday night programming.

NBC is really hoping to get more casual viewers to the show, and they want people to tell others, but I do think it is true that there are some people who don't remember show titles or channels very well. We've had our share of mixed-up show titles in this forum for some of the new programs, and I've read a number of posts here of users who can't remember what channel a program is on even though there is this really big on-screen icon on the right-hand corner.

They actually took this idea from TNN it appears. It has always been my opinion that whatever cable does first shows up later on broadcast channels.

I dislike this strongly too, but the television research has shown:

-People are not able to brand shows with a network as much anymore
-People are not watching commercials (thus the mega icons when a show returns from commercial including big moving icons that cover half of the screen during the first five seconds after commercial first seen on channels like TNT and VH1, but now found frequently on FOX)
-People are changing channels during credits (thus the mini-credit bar and show overruns)
