TurboNet vs. TiVo AirNet?

Can anyone offer advice (pros / cons) of getting a TurboNet card vs. an AirNet card? I already have a wireless network set up, and my Cat-5 connection is in the kitchen while the TV's in the living room, so I'd prefer to go wireless, but I wondered if there were other advantages to the TurboNet itself. My understanding is that the speed of the TiVo itself is slow enough that the slower transfer rate of the AirNet card vs. the TurboNet card shouldn't make a difference. The fact that the 3.0 TiVo software already has TurboNet drivers, but you need to install drivers for the AirNet card, makes me wonder if there are any other differences.

Thanks,

Hi,

If you just want the daily call to go over the network then v3 has built in turbonet drivers (airnet came out after v3.0) which makes it really easy. If you want a bash prompt or to run tivoweb then you will need to install the drivers for turbonet as well.

As only as you are close enough that a 802.11b card will work inside the tivo case without an external aerial then Airnet is a good solution. (I have tested about 25 feet through 2 walls)

Personally I use airnet as it suits my situation.

Thanks, Nick - I think I'll go ahead and go AirNet, then, though I may also get the Zoom card with the external antenna, just in case (hm, or "just out of the case"?). I appreciate your reply!
