60 hour over 80 hr for expansion?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

TiVo virgin looking for his first machine and planning for inevitable desire to expand capacity:

Rather than replace the drive in an 80 hr series II, it seems more logical to buy the cheaper 60 hr, which I understand has a second drive bay, and add to the existing drive.

Do drives need to match?
Does the power supply in the 60 have additional capacity for a second drive?
Does the internal configuration allow for better ventilation in the 60?

Anything else I need to consider?
(Yes, I shall bravely walk thru the valley of the shadow of Linux, where I may fear no Microsoft.)

Thanks!

The drives do not need to match. You will need both an 80 pin IDE cable with two connections and a y-connector for the power regardless of which unit you purchase. My brother just ordered the 60 gig for your reasons and I hope they have not changed the inside of the 60 to match the 80 (meaning 1 hd bracket).

Check out the links at the top for both Hinsdale's instructions and how to downloaded the required utilities.

IDE connectors have 40 pins. Some IDE cables have 80 wires, but they still have 40 pins on the connectors (the extra wires are grounded to shield the data wires).

Do your upgrade with MFS Tools 2.0 as described in New Hinsdale.
