My TiVo died and I have my original 2.5 image to restore. However, I heard that it's "moron" to restore 2.5 image if your TiVo OS is already upgraded to 3.0. Is it true?

A Moron is someone who restores an image earlier than the one shipped with the TiVo, or uses an image from a different brand of TiVo.

It is OK to restore 2.5 to your machine.

It should upgrade back to 3.0 soon.

The image I have is created with MFT 1.0. Is it ok to restore it with MFT 2.0?

Yes, backups from all versions of MFS Tools are compatible.
