MFS Tools not working for me....

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Downloaded MFS Tools 2.0 from http://www.tyger.org/MFS and burned the image to a CD. Drive0 is new 120 GB Maxtor drive, Drive2 is current TIVO 20GB drive and Drive3 is CD/RW . I boot from CD. Verify TIVO drive is 22GB. msbackup returns file not found.... I substitute backup and restore and am informed that x and z are not valid restore options. I try again without these options (backup -Tao - /dev/hdc | restore -s 127 - pi - /dev/hda) and backup starts, reports size and exits to # prompt.

I am at a loss. Can someone help me overcome my ignorance?? Thanks! Robert::)

The error about x and z makes me wonder if you're using MFS Tools 1.0. Did you download the mfstool2.iso?

Normally I would issue that command as

mfsbackup -Tao - /dev/hdc | mfsrestore -s 127 -xpi - /dev/hda

(See New Hinsdale).

You can also try

mfstool backup ... | mfstool restore ...

although that shouldn't be necessary if you're using the CD.

Thanks for the tip. Checked the CD and it appears to be MFS Tools 1.0. Followed your link and re-downloaded. Used the floppy this time. It is running and about 20% done... Thanks for your help!!
