Are CSI: Miami'ers smarter than CSI: Vegas'ers?

Just a simple question. After noticing how many crime scene investigators there are in CSI: LV in the pilot, and every subsequent episode, each person has a specific role, and there are many. But so far, in CSI: Miami, the employees look to be at least half that of LV. I know that CSI'ers in Miami have the ability to make arrests (so no need for cops running around with them) but I'm talking about everyone "behind the scenes". I thought the other day I saw Caruso's character do at least three or four different tasks that would have needed that many assistants in Vegas. Is the budget in Miami tighter so no need for many people, or are their workers smarter, thus able to do more than their specialties?

It's more like "We're paying for a couple of big names, we better pump up the screen time on them"

Interesting how people who watch & like the original tend to really dislike CSI Miami; on the other hand, I never got into the original and I really like CSI Miami. Go figure.

Vegas is the biggest lab in the world, believe I heard that comment in an episode. So, stands to reason they have more staff, and likely are an outsource for many jurisductions that can't afford their own labs.

I think part of it might also be that CSI Miami is, what, 3 episodes old, and the characters haven't really settled in yet. As I recall, the Las Vegas characters took the better part of the first season to really take on genuine personalities.

I like both shows, they're both different in many ways but in the same continuity's "universe".
However, in CSI:LV, there were many different characters in the pilot alone, and didn't get much time to explain their "backstory" until several episodes (some are still ongoing). However, CSI:M totally started out with the main characters (and subordinates) I think there's about 6 total:
David Caruso (Horatio Caine), Kim Delaney (Megan Donner), Emily Proctor (Calleigh Duquesne), Rory Cochrane (Tim Speedle), Adam Rodriguez (Eric Delko), and Khandi Alexander (Alexx Woods).

Is David Caruso a horrible, uni-dimensional actor, or does he just play a horrible, uni-dimensional know-it-all (and I mean ALL) character?

I'm in the same boat as you. I sleep when my wife watches CSI LV. Maybe it's Kim Delaneys tight shirts that keep me watching CSI Miami. :)

I was looking at the web sites and for the main characters there are 6 each.
If they ran the shows exactly the same one of them would not make it so some of the people have to do difference things.
I like both shows but did not thing CSI Miami is as good as they said it would be on the first show. The good thing is that they both have good locations to film from and makes for nice crime scenes if there is such a thing.

I think the plots of Miami are much thinner than Vegas (most of them I knew within minutes). Also one instead of two. Caruso may be weak (not sure if it is by design), but I am fine with it. He is very similar to previous shows, but I liked him okay on those shows, too.

I'm really not liking this show, and I love CSI (original). I'll stick to it for half a season to see if it picks up.
I don't if anybody noticed this, but in the pilot episode in the last scene, the whole staff (well the main charactes in the show) went to the perp's apartment/house. Did all need to be there? Of course this was just so that you had an appropriate ending with the camera panning out and all of them where in the shot looking at the perp.
