digital audio receiver functionality

I'd love to see the TiVo do something like what the Turtle Beach Audiotron does. For those who don't know, the audiotron has an ethernet connection and basically streams MP3s from a computer on your home network and outputs them to your receiver.

The great thing about the TiVo is that it already has all the necessary hardware to be a great audio box since it has a built in hard drive (wouldn't have to stream) and TV output (for easy on-screen control).

well, i'd like to see the HD used exclusively for recording video, however, with a usb ethernet adapter hooked up to your home network, streaming shouldn't be a problem. bonus points if they add the feature to directivo combo boxes and allow output through the digital output (I know it wouldn't be surround)

Didn't they talked about this a while back... In fact I remember something about a partnership with RealNetworks...

100MB for a 1.5 hr audio cache is a drop in the bucket for a 40GB drive. Better yet, 300MB for the equivalent of a 5 disc CD changer that doesn't require your computer to be on would be awesome.

What I'm asking for has nothing to do with Real. You could implement what I want with samba, mpg123 and some scripting since I think true streaming is a bad idea over a local network (no reason why you shouldn't copy it to the local disk and buffer it there).
