Serial lead???

As a newbie to the world of Tivo, What is a Serial lead used for.:confused:

TiVo is a Linux based computer under the covers. With a serial cable you can use your Pc as a terminal to give Linux commands, and install and run additional software on the TIVo, such as TiVoWeb (do a search to see what that can do). You can also connect Tivo to your PC to use your PC's internet access to do the daily call, if for some reason doing it conventionally is not possible. You don't need it in normal TiVo use, just for playing!
