Completely gutted DirecTiVo?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

A question more suited to the hobbyist owners. I just got my hands on a completely barren DirecTiVo DSR6000.
I am asking if my shopping list contains everything I will need to get this baby up and running again. You can ignore the two 120GB drives, those are for something else. Is there any connectors or anything else I'll need?

As you can see, since Panaflos are generally so quiet, I'm going to power the fan off of 12V. But if I decide not to, will I have the right connector to use the 7V from the motherboard?
Much appreciated!

Your shopping cart is empty.
Does the DTiVo have the motherboard, powersupply and drive caddy?

Yes, it has those things.
How's this work?

3-Pin to 4-Pin Power Adapter, connecting a 3 pin connector to a 4 pin power connector

I notice on the DirecTiVo I have, there is what I assume is some interference reducing core surrounding the IDE power cable.

From what I can tell... it looks okay.
But why the fan? You have a 5400RPM drive that really shouldn't created an abnormal amount of heat, unless it's the environment that the Tivo will be kept that requires the fan.
I noticed you picked up the Power Extension Cable, but if you have one drive the stock cable will be sufficient. Now if you were planning on connecting the fan into the chain, you'll have to splice it because it comes with bare wire leads and no connector. So you'll really have no use for the extension cable anyway.
You're picking up a single 60GB drive... for $80. I've been looking around and for about $130 you can get 120GB, literally double your capacity for less that $50 more. If that looks to steep, there are always other capacities in between 60GB and 120GB that would get a better cost per GB value that what you current have allocated.
But that's just my opinion.

I currently don't have a fan. I guess I could get a cheaper one, but I'm paranoid since my 2 120Giggers seem to have hosed up (still to be verified).

That's what I thought the "3-Pin to 4-Pin Power Adapter" was for. The bare leads go into the 3-pin, and the 4-pin plugs into the Power Extension Cable? Plus, I thought the 3-Pin would be able to plug into the 7V on the board if I decide not to go with 12V.
There is no Power Cable currently in the system.

True. If I find a better drive deal, I'll snap it up no problem.
Also, there seems to be a interference-reducing core around the IDE power cable I do have. Is this necessary?

The fan should be on the underside of the drive caddy. Odd that it would have been removed...
You don't really need the ferrite core for the power lead, but it doesn't hurt to have one. Radio shack has them at http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...%5Fid=273%2D105

Like I said, completely gutted. If he could put it in a computer, he took it out. Thanks for the core info.
