Phillips HDR112 stuck on startup screen

I have a weaknees pre-upgraded Phillips HDR112 300 hour Tivo that is stuck on the 'starting up' screen with the Tivo guy. It was working fine at 10pm last night and when I got in at 2am this morning it was unhappy with the world.
Any suggestions as to how to go about finding and fixing the problem? I haven't really done anything to it, no hacks etc... just plain happy with it until now. I don't have a backup image at all since I haven't even cracked it open after getting it from weaknees  My guess is that it is one of the drives based on the other posts here, but I want to be sure before doing a RMA on one of the drives.
Thanks!

Obviously the first thing to do is find out which drive has failed. Start by running PowerMax on them (assuming they're Maxtors).

Will do when I get home. I've used PowerMax before, shouldn't be hard to pop them out and run the check.
They are Maxtor drives, any special jumpers to set before dropping them in my PC (minus the obvious master/slave)?

The drives will already be set as master and slave for the TiVo so you can plug them straight into the PC.

I have a RMA going for the drive. Is there anything I can do to prep for the new drive? I am going to attempt a backup with mfstools2 regardless of the error but I would appreciate any suggestions. My "B" drive is just fine.
Thanks!

If either of the drives in a twin dies MFS Tools won't work. Your preparation should therefore consist of downloading a backup file to restore to your working drive.

I managed to do a MFS backup of the twin with a lot of complaints from the kernel about LBA errors. Since I was faced with a total rebuild anyway, I decided to try dropping down to one drive (my old B drive) by restoring the broken backup to the B drive...
It WORKED! I'm now up and running (minus my recordings) with one 120G drive. As soon as the RMAed drive gets here I'll add it back with the MFS tools. Don't worry, I preped the A drive with the -s 127 option.
Thanks for all of the help!

You were very lucky - although taking backups off working TiVoes is easy, once the TiVo becomes unbootable the chances of success are very slim. You'll find adding the B drive very easy compared to this.
